About this listen
A breathtakingly candid memoir by Joanna "JoJo" Levesque, the chart-topping, multi-platinum recording artist behind hits like “Leave (Get Out),” “Too Little, Too Late”, and the Grammy Award-winning "Say So"
Signed to a major recording deal at just 12 years old, JoJo catapulted to the top of the pop-and-R&B-infused charts in the mid 2000's. The relatability of her youth and the appeal of her cool-girl mystique earned her millions of fans around the world. JoJo was an undeniable superstar and pop culture fixture, spanning roles in major studio films, omnipresence on Top 40 radio, frequenting magazine covers, and appearing on national TV. Then, out of the blue, everything came to a halt and JoJo seemingly stepped out of the spotlight, leaving many fans to wonder: What happened to JoJo?
In OVER THE INFLUENCE, JoJo holds nothing back as she brings her against-the-odds story of adversity and triumph to center stage. From being raised by parents who were both battling addiction and depression, to emerging victorious in a never-ending lawsuit with her record label, to putting the fragmented pieces of herself together after a maddening period of rebellion and self-betrayal, she takes the listener through the turbulent years that led her to where she is now: releasing new music under her own imprint, performing in shows and festivals around the world, headlining a Broadway show, and beyond. In this raw, behind-the-scenes look at her life, both personal and professional, JoJo’s unflinching vulnerability allows listeners to connect with her on a whole new level through stories of success, heartbreak, redemption, and resilience.
More than a victory lap from an artist with over two decades in an ever-changing entertainment industry, OVER THE INFLUENCE is an unapologetic rallying cry to anyone who’s ever been terrified to fail and still said, “Count me in.”

Amazing Listen
I usually don’t do reviews but I was very pleasantly surprised with Jo’s memoir. I’ve been loving her music since I was in my pre-teen years and was so sad when her career took an involuntary hiatus. This was so well written and so very well narrated. I usually download an audiobook so I can drift off to sleep, but when I tried doing it for this, I just found myself lying awake in bed for an extra 3 hours because of how captivating her story is. I can’t praise and recommend this enough!

Raw and Captivating
I have been a fan of Joanna for twenty years, since the first moment I heard “Leave (Get Out)” and I have followed her along the years with all her endeavours. I unfortunately could not make it to a showing of Moulin Rouge but I stalked her instagram and read reviews anywhere I could! Reading this (actually I listened to it, because hearing it in her voice gave me chills) was so moving and profound. I honestly feel like a proud friend which also makes me feel silly since this is someone I’ve never met, or even had the pleasure of seeing live (I live in the maritimes in Canada, IYKYK). But overall my heart is so happy and grateful that she let us in like this and let her voice be free in more ways than one. As always, I cannot wait to see what comes next with all this empowerment, and I cannot wait to see what her soul creates. 10/10

Loved it!!
Her story is fascinating, she is honest and a joy to listen to. I knew a few of her songs back in the day but wasn't aware of how her label screwed her over so badly. She is a warrior!
Will definitely listen to it all over again!

The only memoir I’ve ever been waiting for!
I have been a die hard fan since day one back in 2004. I would consider myself one of those all out fans that would buy personalized engraved gifts on each tour she would do in Canada. I would literally spend hundreds of dollars on merch simply wanting to support her in any way a fan could. I spent many years googling weekly, when is Jojo’s album coming out and was very much part of the #freejojo movement. I remember regularly tweeting Blackground records things like, why are you sleeping on such talent, get a distribution deal, release Jojo from her contract. All this to say I was hoping one day a memoir would be released to learn what really happened all those years aside from what was public knowledge. Jo, I’m so F-en proud of you girl! This book has literally given me all the answers I’ve always wondered about! I took a road trip from Ottawa Canada this summer with my 2 kids to see you on broadway you were phenomenal! I look forward to your next season and know you have so many amazing fans around the world who love you! I’ve met many of them! Sending you mad love! Matt8709 -Ottawa Canada

The authors honesty, vulnerability and relatability.
I really like how Joanna just told the truth, she never sugar coated or tried to paint herself in a more desirable light. She never played victim even though, in her career there was almost no other way one could interpret her experience. I found her story of struggles with vices very relatable and real, I’ve never heard someone put it in such a way so grounded in reality. For many people, myself included, it is impossible to learn hard life lessons after just one mistake. An addicts experience is having no choice but to re learn lessons over and over again. She is such a stark example of how music labels really know absolutely nothing about artistry. Her commitment to authenticity is incredibly admirable and I cannot wait to hear her new music as an even bigger fan than I was when I started listening to this book. Joanna’s performance narrating was also very authentic. This book is a tear jerker and made me think back about my own life and patterns that have kept me stuck. That was a captivating listen.
