Publisher's Summary

A dark and electrifying novel about addiction, fanaticism, and what might exist on the other side of life.

In a small New England town, over half a century ago, a shadow falls over a small boy playing with his toy soldiers. Jamie Morton looks up to see a striking man, the new minister. Charles Jacobs, along with his beautiful wife, will transform the local church. The men and boys are all a bit in love with Mrs. Jacobs; the women and girls feel the same about Reverend Jacobs - including Jamie’s mother and beloved sister, Claire. With Jamie, the Reverend shares a deeper bond based on a secret obsession. When tragedy strikes the Jacobs family, this charismatic preacher curses God, mocks all religious belief, and is banished from the shocked town.

Jamie has demons of his own. Wed to his guitar from the age of 13, he plays in bands across the country, living the nomadic lifestyle of bar-band rock and roll while fleeing from his family’s horrific loss. In his mid-30s - addicted to heroin, stranded, desperate - Jamie meets Charles Jacobs again, with profound consequences for both men. Their bond becomes a pact beyond even the Devil’s devising, and Jamie discovers that revival has many meanings.

This rich and disturbing novel spans five decades on its way to the most terrifying conclusion Stephen King has ever written. It’s a masterpiece from King, in the great American tradition of Frank Norris, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Edgar Allan Poe.

One of King’s best.

Don’t read the reviews. The connections to other novels and authors will spoil the impact of the ending. Amazing well developed characters with a solid gut punch of horror in the final acts. David Morse’s narration is top tier.

King at his best & narration was top notch!

One of the most enjoyable audiobooks I’ve listened to in a long time! The characters are rich and the story; while being a slow burner, slowly crescendos to an ending unlike anything you’ve read by King before. Narration was fantastic and the whole experience was top shelf all around. Highly recommended!!

not the best Stephen king

very slow and fairly boring all up until the final couple of hours of listening. worth a read if you're a big Stephen King fan, otherwise there are many better

the narrator is good, but not great

it was sometimes hard for me to tell which character was talking. the narrator should've done a better job at distinguishing voices

Review of Steven King's Revival

I have recently come to love the books of Steven King. His books like The Stand, 11.22.63, Under The Dome and Revival are great epics that you can really get lost in. His writing style is so easy to follow, especially in an audio book format.

There is humour, drama and comedy in most of the stories that I've read.

I found myself looking forward to my commute and putting in the earbuds and listening to this all the way home.

This one actually scared me when I was lying in bed beside my wife. I had to cover up under the blankets and scootch up closer to my wife because the goose bumps crept up my back when I was closer to the climax of the story.

Great fun and a great listen...I recommend it!

Worth it

This book completely kept me in thralled it carried on like a real day to day story so much detail, every nuance felt like you were right there. The narrator was amazing 10 stars for that guy. I love that the book wasn't all grim and horror, but the ending was seemingly different from the story it took a turn and went off into a different weird place. Very dark enfing and didn't seem to fit in the story somehow.

Slow till the last couple of hours

I’m a big Stephen king fan! I’ve enjoyed the long walk, misery, the talisman, fairytale and Joyland just to name a few. I found this story a bit boring and slow, kinda like Black house the sequel to the talisman. The beginning was good just a slow drawn out middle but the ending was good.

good and meh

it was a nice story to be told, I'm not sure reading it would have been as nice. I haven't read enough SK to know of he does subtext/unreliable narrator stuff, but we semi had to make up theories at book club to make it a bit more interesting. it was fine. but writing books is hard so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
