About this listen
Sons of Anarchy meets The Departed in this fast-paced, high-wire act memoir from former ATF agent Ken Croke, the first federal agent in history to go undercover and successfully infiltrate the infamous—and infamously violent—Pagan Motorcycle Club, a white supremacist biker gang.
Longtime ATF agent Ken Croke had earned the right to coast to the end of a storied career, having routinely gone undercover to apprehend white supremacists, gun runners, and gang members. But after a chance encounter with an associate of the Pagan Motorcycle Gang created an opening, he transformed himself into “Slam,” a monstrous, axe-handle wielding enforcer whose duty was to protect the leadership “mother club” at all costs. He befriended the club’s most violent and criminally insane members and lived among them for two years, covertly building a case that would eventually take down the top members of the gang in a massive federal prosecution, even as he risked his marriage, his sanity, and his life. With today’s law enforcement largely moving toward the comparative safety of cyber operations, it became one of the last of its kind, a masterclass in old school tactics that marked Croke as a dying breed of undercover agent and became legendary in law enforcement.
Now for the first time, Croke tells the story of his terrifying undercover life in the Pagans—the unspeakable violence, extremism, drugs, and disgusting rituals. Written with bestselling crime writer Dave Wedge and utilizing the exclusive cooperation of those who lived the case with him, as well as thousands of pages of court files and hours of surveillance tapes and photos, Croke delivers a frightening, nail-biting account of the secretive and brutal biker underworld.

Story
Wyatt Earp is regarded as the most famous lawman of the Old West, best known for his role in the Gunfight at the OK Corral in Tombstone, Arizona. But the story of his two-year war with a band of outlaws known as the Cowboys has never been told in full. The Cowboys were the largest outlaw gang in the history of the American West. After battles with the law in Texas and New Mexico, they shifted their operations to Arizona. There, they ruled the border, robbing, rustling, smuggling, and killing with impunity until they made the fatal mistake of tangling with the Earp brothers.

Story
It was long ago, but not as long as it seems: The Berlin Wall fell and the Twin Towers collapsed. In between, one presidential election was allegedly decided by Ross Perot while another was plausibly decided by Ralph Nader. Landlines fell to cell phones, the internet exploded, and pop culture accelerated without the aid of technology that remembered everything. It was the last era with a real mainstream to either identify with or oppose. The ’90s brought about a revolution in the human condition, and a shift in consciousness, that we’re still struggling to understand.

Good story. Writing could have been better
The fact he spent years infiltrating the gang is incredible. Unfortunately, the way it is written makes him sound very self-righteous and arrogant.

Left me wanting more
At times the story felt made up because the cop is so righteous and arrogant. Like every cop movie, he butts head with the boss and the upper management doesn't agree with his methods of doing whatever it takes to solve the case. Would make for a better story if it seemed like the cop was going to break bad and didn't dread every second of being undercover. You are a human being it's not like he didn't enjoy parts of his undercover work otherwise how did you convince these bikers? It all felt superficial like the author was scared of telling the whole truth. Was a good listen, nothing too crazy happens but interesting nonetheless.

What a great title!
People do not realize what actually happens in those "motorcycle clubs", how far and to what extent things can really go. I'm blown away just trying to imagine what kind of a superhuman it takes to infiltrate a gang like this, to play their games, go through their tests, juggle your identities and not get mixed up or be able to get out of every situation on the fly. I have so much respect for people like Ken I cannot even begin to describe it.
I loved the passionate tone of voice and the reading style, the general flow of the story and the details. It is a book that's a pleasure to listen to, it sucks you in and you don't want to take a break from it. A truly great title! I really enjoyed it! Thank you!

Riveting
Gripping tale from an ATF agent who's first hand experience as a deep undercover biker was very good. I could tell, however, the author was reluctant to provide more details of his story. I was left wanting more. The saving grace is that Ken shares his story from start to finish, and the impact this type of career has on a cops family. Very well performed as well.

Addictive listen. Great Narration and interesting story.
One of the best audiobooks I’ve listened to. Always left me wanting to know what would happen next. The sacrifices people make to gain access to how criminal organizations operate - wish I could meet him in person! Fantastic book.

Good listen, however.
This special agent has such a massive ego, it made this hard to listen too. He barely put a dent in the moc and he acts like her saved the world.

1,2,3 around and around we go
Predictable plot. Cop-hero wants to infiltrate gang. This creates stress at home. Gang asks hero to stretch limits. Hero gets lucky. More stress at home. Repeat. Spoiler. Gang gets busted. Hero goes back to family and lives happily ever after. End.
