About this listen
That was 11 years ago. Now, the hitman who goes only by Stark has escaped and is back in L.A. Armed with a fortune-telling coin, a black bone knife, and an infernal key, Stark is determined to destroy the magic circle - led by the conniving and powerful Mason Faim - that stole his life.
Though nearly everything has changed, one constant remains: his friend Vidocq, a 200-year-old Frenchman who has been keeping vigil for the young magician's return. But when Stark's first stop saddles him with an abusive talking head that belongs to the first of the circle, a sleazy video store owner named Kasabian, Stark discovers that the road to absolution and revenge is much longer than he counted on, and both Heaven and Hell have their own ideas for his future.

Story
Necromancer is such an ugly word, but it's a title Eric Carter is stuck with. He sees ghosts, talks to the dead. He's turned it into a lucrative career, putting troublesome spirits to rest, sometimes taking on even more dangerous things. For a fee, of course. When he left LA 15 years ago, he thought he'd never go back. Too many bad memories. Too many people trying to kill him.

But when Alex is approached by multiple factions to crack open a relic from a long-ago mage war, he knows that whatever's inside must be beyond powerful.

Story
Cutting a deal with a trickster god rarely goes well for any human brave or foolish enough to try it, but Atticus doesn’t feel like he has a choice. With members of the Norse pantheon out for his blood, he can’t train his apprentice in peace, so he asks Coyote to help him fake his own death. The cost, however, might wind up being every bit as high as if he’d made no deal at all.

Dresden wins over Slim.
Tried the first Sandman Slim book since it seemed similar to the Dresden Files of which I am a huge fan. Although I found the book to be well written, funny in spots and interesting, I was disappointed in the character build that left me lacking the affinity for the characters that I delight in the Dresden series. In addition, I found the numerous fight sequences rather tedious and wished the author had dedicated more time to letting us get to know the characters and their back stories. So, while I anxiously await the next installment of the Dresden Files and forego future Sandman Slim novels, I do recommend the Richard Kadrey books to those who prefer action to drama. As well, if MacLeod Andrews continues to narrate the series, this is definitely an added bonus for future Sandman Slim listeners.

Great book.
Great book with a great story. My only complaint is that for whatever reason there are no chapters. You can only skip ahead by intervals of 30 seconds to find your place. I'm pretty sure Bezos can afford to have these broken up into chapters. Don't be so cheap audible. It's really disgusting.

So much fun. Huge crush on Stark!
Still my favorite of the Sandman Slim books; more of a first among equals. Richard Kadrey has created a blaze of prose that never ceases to entertain. MacLeod Andrews is a God of narration and character.

Absolutely Floored!
This book is total nonstop action from beginning to end. Our main protagonist? A man that just crawled out of Hell named Stark after having wrongly been put there in the first place. He's a foul mouthed highly skilled fighter with so much charisma and humor, you'll be laughing throughout as he creates a flesh storm of evil creatures, makes a few friends along the way, all as he tries to find the main antagonist - the man who cast the spell that sent him to hell in the first place.
This wasn't my first venture into the Supernatural Thriller/horror Genre. I've read various other works by other authors in that regard, but all pale in comparison. The narrator brings Stark (main character) fully to life and you feel like you're literally doing a ride-along with him as he goes on his warpath for revenge. His friends are rather Meek and mild comparatively, and they kind of reel him back (and save his life) when it needs saving.
If you like anything in the supernatural/thriller/horror genre, this is an absolute MUST listen. I cannot implore you enough as to just how great this Audio Book is. The even better part is that its the 1st book in an incredibly good series that will keep you wanting more, even after the book is through. I never knew the magic of fiction until i found this series. You have to hear it to believe just how good it is. Heck, even press the preview button and you'll hear from Stark himself.

A Bit Flawed
I picked this up on a friend's recommendation and the best I can say is that I actually finished it. And only because it was easier to keep listening because I was on a road trip. The writing itself is poor and I caught some continuity errors, but also the characters and their decisions are just so..... illogical, not to character, etc etc. They'll say one thing and then do another. The plot makes zero sense. People's magical powers are entirely plot-based, and the "end boss" felt so little after being talked up for literally the whole book.
