About this listen

The best-selling author of The Martian returns with an irresistible new near-future thriller - a heist story set on the moon.

Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent.

Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down. But pulling off the impossible is just the start of her problems, as she learns that she's stepped square into a conspiracy for control of Artemis itself - and that now her only chance at survival lies in a gambit even riskier than the first.

Bringing to life Weir's brash, whip-smart protagonist is actress Rosario Dawson (Marvel's The Defenders, Sin City, Death Proof). With the breathless immediacy of one realizing they're one cracked helmet visor away from oblivion, Dawson deftly captures Jazz's first-person perspective – all while delivering sarcastic Weir-ian one-liners and cracking wise in the face of death. And with a cast of diverse characters from all walks of life calling Artemis home, Dawson tonally somersaults to voice Kenyan prime ministers, Ukrainian scientists, and Saudi welders. It's a performance that transports listeners right alongside Jazz, matching her step for step on every lunar inch of her pulse-pounding journey.

While Andy Weir again created a very believable world the storytelling is full of Hollywood Action movie clichées that get boring fast.

1st class World Building, weak storytelling

An elaborate mix of personality and espionage set among the sizzling atmosphere of a developing lunar colony. The character's blended into their roles and delivered a believable performance as time ticks on in their small bubble of humanity.

The world described in this novel has you moving through an interlocking struggle for power as private organizations run freely and specialized groups control access to lunar activities.

Andy has created a lively perception of life in space, and the dangers that so intimately stalk it's inhabitants.

Rosario's performance was a dedicated stride into the shoes of the protagonist (Jas), bringing each character a flavor on their own. Although some instances had me struggling to discern a few characters apart from one another, the result left me excited to continue listening till the end without taking away from the experience.

A great read for those looking for an enjoyable fictional tale, with the scientific backing to add to it's realism. Thus, a soft 4/5 experience.

It’s and ok follow up to the Martian but by no means is it as exciting. The science is basic and the story feels empty. The narrator does an ok job of telling the story but the writing seems to fail the tone of her voice. Between the horrid accents and unnecessary use of swear words you find yourself distanced from the story.
Might be a better one to read yourself.

I honestly don't know where to begin praise for this audio book. The book itself is well thought out and plot moves quick enough to make you want to Binge it.

Dawson slides seemsly into the narrator in the first person perspective of this book. I don't know if the author had her in mind (and don't envy the actress who takes on the role when it gets turned into a movie) but Dawson was a perfect choice and really added to the overall enjoyment of this book. Dawson plays the 'too stubborn to die' characters so well.

I highly recomend the book as it is entertaining and has the potential to teach you a few things in the process.

Disclaimer: I don't always enjoy books where a male writes a female narrator. The author did a good job blending the bias into the character.

Rosario Dawson adds to an already excellent sotry
