Publisher's Summary

Cadet Qaylan Furlong's father was killed by the Borg in the battle of Wolf 359. Now, 10 years later, the Borg are attacking again, and Starfleet won't allow Cadet Furlong to stay aboard the Starship Cheyenne to avenge his father's death - but Q will. He'll do better than that, in fact, taking the cadet back in time and putting him on the same ship as his father to give Qaylan a chance to save him - and the entire Federation - on a mission of extreme danger, difficult choices, and suprising results.

Entertaining, but Half the Advertised Length

I never played the "game" on which this recording is based. I'm not certain (based on this audiobook) that it was much more than a "Choose-Your-Own-Adventure" experience - there isn't a great deal of "skill" involved in the gameplay - but it would undoubtedly be fun. Regardless, this is a very cool foray into manipulating the Space-Time Continuum to relive one of the most exciting events in the Star Trek canon. The writing is decent (capturing Q's unempathetic arrogance perfectly, for example) but appears to follow a fixed set of script options rather than progressing organically. Don't expect a conventional "book".

This recording is put together with a full voice cast - and they are all admirably professional. Howard McGillan, for example, does a very nice job narrating the overall events and portraying Cadet Qaylan Furlong on his travel back in time to the battle at Wolf 359. His emotiveness brings to life the desperation of someone watching his father repeatedly die. John de Lancie (who plays Q on the TNG program) recreates his enigmatic character perfectly. The sound engineering team at Simon & Schuster Audio add exciting sound effects and music judiciously to generate a cinema-quality atmosphere (without getting carried away).

Taken altogether, I would give this fun adventure 8.5 stars, but it's deceptively short (about half the time of the 2hrs15 advertised). I feel somewhat cheated.. 2 stars out of 10, I guess. Still, I need to play this game.
