About this listen

Working at the local processing plant, Marcos is in the business of slaughtering humans - though no one calls them that anymore.

His wife has left him, his father is sinking into dementia, and Marcos tries not to think too hard about how he makes a living. After all, it happened so quickly. First, it was reported that an infectious virus has made all animal meat poisonous to humans. Then governments initiated the "Transition". Now, eating human meat - "special meat" - is legal. Marcos tries to stick to numbers, consignments, processing.

Then one day he's given a gift: a live specimen of the finest quality. Though he's aware that any form of personal contact is forbidden on pain of death, little by little he starts to treat her like a human being. And soon, he becomes tortured by what has been lost - and what might still be saved.

Disturbing

This was a fantastic look at a potential reality.
It was a gruesome, heart wrenching read that makes you wonder how far we would go to survive and be happy.

Want a part 2

The story is good, but I guess I would have liked more details. Maybe a sequel? I’d read that too.
I also find myself wishing to hear from a woman protagonist as her experience in this world would be so different from Marcos’.

Wow

Definitely a great read, not as gory as some made it out to be. Love the main character, hated him by the end

Horrifying and captivating

This was interesting… a short and disturbing read. A well done book nonetheless. Do not read if you have a fickle stomach.

So Horrific. Best I've Finished in a LONG Time

I just finished and the hair on my arms are prickled. Reminds me of Blindness in how this horror show of a reality became normal. At times, it bends your own take on morality.

Spoiler alert: Moral Cannibalism is better than Black Market cannibalism here.

Well worth the credit as it's the most jaw dropping story I've finished in years.

Narrator has a whistle when pronouncing S's

every time the Narrator pronounces an S, he let's a whistle out that is so harsh to the ears, especially in headphones. I'm over half way through and it's become so infuriating that I'm not sure I can finish this listen
