About this listen
AN INSTANT #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER
A must-have guide to optimizing your life for wealth and success, from bestselling author, NYU professor, and cohost of the Pivot podcast Scott Galloway
Today’s workers have more opportunities and mobility than any generation before. They also face unprecedented challenges, including inflation, labor and housing shortages, and climate volatility. Even the notion of retirement is undergoing a profound rethink, as our lifespans extend and our relationship with work evolves. In this environment, the tried-and-true financial advice our parents followed is no longer enough. It’s time for a new playbook.
In The Algebra of Wealth, Scott Galloway lays bare the rules of financial success in today’s economy. In his characteristic unvarnished, no-BS style, he explains what you need to know in order to better your chances for economic security no matter what. You’ll learn:
- How to find and follow your talent, not your passion, when making career decisions
- How to ride and optimize big economic waves (hard truth: market dynamics always trump individual achievement)
- What small steps you can take that pay big returns later, including diversification and tax planning
- How stoicism can help you minimize spending and develop better financial habits
Brimming with wise, game-changing advice from one of the world’s most popular business school professors, The Algebra of Wealth offers a powerful framework for making the most of what opportunities come your way.

“Long live the King” hailed Entertainment Weekly upon publication of Stephen King’s On Writing. Part memoir, part master class by one of the bestselling authors of all time, this superb volume is a revealing and practical view of the writer’s craft, comprising the basic tools of the trade every writer must have. King’s advice is grounded in his vivid memories from childhood through his emergence as a writer, from his struggling early career to his widely reported, near-fatal accident in 1999—and how the inextricable link between writing and living spurred his recovery.

“Profoundly insightful and a joy to read. Few explain complicated topics better than Scott Galloway.”—Morgan Housel, New York Times bestselling author of The Psychology of Money
“The decisions you make at the beginning of your professional life have a compounding impact on your chances of success, and this invaluable guide will steer you toward an optimal outcome.”—Annie Duke, bestselling author of Thinking in Bets

Great book for folks interested in building wealth - the Smart way.
this was a very good book given that I’m a big fan of Prof G. A lot of the information presented in the book was very true and accurate. Although, I did find that some of the points were better suited for folks that were not yet financially savvy. given that I’m an investment professional, I did find that some of the financial points were a bit simple for my liking. Although I wouldn’t hesitate to refer friends and family to read this book to increase their financial literacy. Scott starts from the ground and build his way up to make the points easier understand for the average Joe. if you’re looking to begin the process of getting wealthy and need a roadmap this book I think is for you. That being said, I would rate the book an A+.

Great advice if you can start investing in the 1990s
If you we born in the 1960s and are now in your 20's or 30's, this book will offer you a clear path to financial stability (through one of the most prosperous periods in human history) However, if you're looking to build wealth in the future, you'll find this book less helpful.
The author managed to amass become a multimillionaire (though he's vague as to how) while participating in 3 decades of immense economic growth and doesn't ever mention that his approach may not work as well for future generations. He's not wrong, but maybe simplistic.

Sensible for 2024
This is a good book, a lot of repackaging of age old, common sense ideas. Would recommend especially for young people who don’t understand money. As a Canadian reader, it would have been great to have some translations to RRSPs & TFSAs but that might be a can of worms to accommodate non American listeners.
Thanks Prof G!

Deeply inspiring
As a man that just turned 40, in the first 1/3 of his wealth journey, this book was probably the first place I've heard a no nonsense roadmap of where to go in today's climate. The epilogue is something to stand in awe of.

unsensational and rational advice.
Give this book to someone in there 20s. it will do wonders for that person in there 50s. too much garbage on tik tok or youtube aimed at them for them to make it without this advice. Scott is one of my new life guru's.
