Publisher's Summary

Hidden somewhere, in nearly every major city in the world, is an underground seduction lair. And in these lairs, men trade the most devastatingly effective techniques ever invented to charm women. This is not fiction. These men really exist. They live together in houses known as Projects. And Neil Strauss, the best-selling author, spent two years living among them, using the pseudonym Style to protect his real-life identity.

The result is one of the most explosive and controversial books of the year -- guaranteed to change the lives of men and transform the way women understand the opposite sex forever.

On his journey from AFC (average frustrated chump) to PUA (pick-up artist) to PUG (pick-up guru), Strauss not only shares scores of original seduction techniques but also has unforgettable encounters with the likes of Tom Cruise, Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, Heidi Fleiss, and Courtney Love. And then things really start to get strange -- and passions lead to betrayals lead to violence.

The Game is the story of one man's transformation from frog to prince to prisoner in the most unforgettable book of the year.

Editorial Review

Follow best-selling writer Neil Strauss as he dives into the dark and exciting world of underground seduction lairs. Taking on the code name Style, Strauss immerses himself in this hidden world, learning the fine art of becoming a true pick-up artist from masters of the craft.

This dynamic and controversial work of nonfiction will amaze, educate, and excite as you not only learn techniques, but hear firsthand tales of fame, passion, and deception. The Game plunges headlong into the calculated world of seduction and continues to shock listeners all the way through. Controversial and dynamic, it is sure to hook you from the start.

The release is narrated by Neil Strauss, the writer himself, adding a raw, intimate nature to the tale. Listeners can engage firsthand with the man they know has really been there and really seen it. Strauss has a measured and steady tone, delivering both facts and wild encounters with equal meter. He relays each story with a passion and realness that can only be heard through the voice of the writer himself.

Written in 2005, the title has received both acclaim and controversy. While it takes a hard look at the world of the art of seduction, it is also largely autobiographical, following Strauss throughout his two years as an undercover reporter within the pickup artist community. This was later followed up by a sequel, Rules of The Game, originally produced in 2007. It has been well received by fans, with a favourable Audible rating and engaged listeners. For an in-depth look at an underground world few even knew existed, have a listen to The Game.

As a woman I found this uncomfortable,

This was a bit uncomfortable to listen to, but it did help with insight on how humans work. Reading this was a good listen on the human condition. How relationships work, how we are all looking for “love” and endlessly searching for something.
I enjoyed how Neil left at the end and how his conclusion to leaving and starting his real life back up again was about truth of real love.

"To win the game you have to leave it"

I've never seriously tried to become a pick-up artist but I've being curious all the way on how it works and how I could use it. In the book you won't find an instruction or manuals. It's rather an autobiographic story that touches the motivations, the phylosophy and the reasons which brought people like Neil to learn "The Game". At the end of the story you are to have your own conclusions. Wether the game was useful in the end or just a way to understand oneself better that can be abandoned soon after. I found it quite insightful and the book sounds quite realistic and intriguing.

Awkward to Listen to but Very Insightful

I read this book to explore strategies on gaining confidence, not just with women, but in business. I don’t think I’ll use the magic-related tips that we’re offered here, but I do think that I’ve gained something. Worth the read, and it’s actually a pretty entertaining story.

Very heavily edited

I’ve read it before and there are a lot of good parts missing from the audiobook.

Fun listen

Neil Strauss is an excellent orator. It really feels like to get to peer behind the curtain to a different world. As morally dubious as the content is, somehow he tells it in way so that you can take it with a grain of salt.

Know the enemy

Nice guys don't have to finish last. Read this to see what your up against if you're entering the dating world. If you're already in a committed relationship, this book will help you to counter predatory individuals who may try to step in as one of those pesky home wreckers.

Great book for an open mind.

Hell of a ride!

This book takes you on a 2 year journey of Neil’s life. From the bottom average frustrated chump (AFC) to the height of pick up artists (PUA) everywhere. Then discovering what really matters in life. It’s an interesting dynamic. The woman he truly wanted and who truly appreciated him for him would never have met him if he never went through the journey. TLDR: be fun; be confident.

So cool and funny and sad :)

I really loved the sincerity of this book. I have a best friend who was deep into the pua scene, never really knew what he was talking about when we went out and I was his wing, but the book made it all make sense after all this time. I was always the lead guitar player or singer in the band, so learning how to meet woman never occurred to me. Love the book, quite a ride! Thanks Neil :)
