About this listen

The trilogy that began with The Emperor's Blades and continued in The Providence of Fire reaches its epic conclusion as war engulfs the Annurian Empire in Brian Staveley's The Last Mortal Bond

The ancient csestriim are back to finish their purge of humanity; armies march against the capital; leaches, solitary beings who draw power from the natural world to fuel their extraordinary abilities, maneuver on all sides to affect the outcome of the war; and capricious gods walk the earth in human guise with agendas of their own.

But the three imperial siblings at the heart of it all - Valyn, Adare, and Kaden - come to understand that even if they survive the holocaust unleashed on their world, there may be no reconciling their conflicting visions of the future.

was a great series but the ending was a alight let down. the end was both too cliche and anti-climatic

Complex Story in a Vrutal World

The mythology and history was a bit dense to wade through, but the characters and the story were wonderful. The performance was compelling and I listened obsessively from beginning to end. I recommend this series to any devotees of fantasy.

Brilliant

The story was amazing and Simon Vance incredible as always. One of the ways I pick what I listen to is to find stories that Simon Vance does.

Only part I didn't love was that it ended.

I loved this series. I only started it because the first book was given away for free and I was hooked into it. I loved the characters, even though some of their decisions were infuriating, I had to remember that they are essentially children. I knew how it was going to end but I hated that it had to be. I got exactly what I wanted for the 2 heroes just for it to be taken away right after. the only gripe that I have about the story is that I felt like the ending was rushed. 3 books, essentially 75 hours of listening building up to something that really was over in a chapter. I wish there was less time spent in certain places and more time spent on the conclusion. I felt like the characters deserved more time to wrap up this story, and with no chance for a follow up, it's hard to say it was a satisfying end.
