About this listen
The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet: Booktrack Edition adds an immersive musical soundtrack to your audiobook listening experience!
SHORTLISTED FOR THE BAILEY'S WOMEN'S PRIZE FOR FICTION
The beloved debut novel that will restore your faith in humanity
When Rosemary Harper joins the crew of the Wayfarer, she isn't expecting much. The ship, which has seen better days, offers her everything she could possibly want: a small, quiet spot to call home for a while, adventure in far-off corners of the galaxy, and distance from her troubled past.
But Rosemary gets more than she bargained for with the Wayfarer. The crew is a mishmash of species and personalities, from Sissix, the friendly reptillian pilot, to Kizzy and Jenks, the constantly sparring engineers who keep the ship running. Life on board is chaotic, but more or less peaceful - exactly what Rosemary wants.
Until the crew are offered the job of a lifetime: the chance to build a hyperspace tunnel to a distant planet. They'll earn enough money to live comfortably for years... if they survive the long trip through war-torn interstellar space without endangering any of the fragile alliances that keep the galaxy peaceful.
But Rosemary isn't the only person on board with secrets to hide, and the crew will soon discover that space may be vast, but spaceships are very small indeed.
Booktrack is an immersive format that pairs traditional audiobook narration and complementary music. The tempo and rhythm of the score are in perfect harmony with the action and characters throughout the audiobook. Gently playing in the background, the music never overpowers or distracts from the narration so that listeners can enjoy every minute. When you purchase this Booktrack edition, you receive the exact narration as the traditional audiobook available, with the addition of music throughout.

9/10, made me cry
I've read a lot of sci-fi in my life, but there's nothing that really compares to this on the same level. This story is told with so much compassion and earnestness that it's hard not to be swept up in it.
It's easy to tell the amount of love that was put into this work, and it's even easier to recommend. If you're on the fence about this one, take the chance on it; it wont let you down

I don't like the Booktrack.
I'm enjoying the story so far, but find the 'Booktrack' to be distracting. I think I'll be returning this and purchasing the music free version.

Brilliant
This series is my new favourite, so wonderful. The concepts are so brilliant, and the writing really makes you feel like you know the crew of the Wayfarer

A nice little listen for those who enjoy sci-fi!
I selected this audiobook from a list of recommended queer sci fi novels. The Wayfarer and her crew kept me company over a few weeks in the middle of the night as I fed my newborn... an nice, easy, feel good listen in an interesting world.
As others have said, the plot is secondary to exploring the characters... and quite honestly, this is fine, unless you're looking for something really intense. I enjoyed listening to this story, and will likely enjoy the next in the series as well.
It isn't perfect... the Ashby relationship story was eye-rolly. But it's made up for in some of the more interesting world building.

Booktrack is distracting
Loved the book but the sound effects make it too chaotic. Sometimes its almost as loud as the narrator and makes it very hard to concentrate. Would prefer an option without the soundtrack.

AMAZING - Finished it in just a few days
This book was soooo good! The author does an amazing job worldbuilding and exploring all the different characters' lives. It reads as genuinely realistic and like an adventure book simply set in space rather than *Space Adventure* if that makes sense. Many things the characters are experiencing are just average everyday parts of life in the future, while still remaining interesting and including more "out there" fun experiences and characters. The history and technology just blends right in to the writing instead of being a bunch of exposition or feeling out of place, and the aliens seemed like actual other species and not just knock-off humans. The romantic couples in this were also really nice - sweet and subtle without lots of drama since it's not the focus of the book. The majority of the writing is more character-based than plot (though that still has satisfying writing throughout with a good conclusion) which I personally enjoyed. I found that listening to it as an audiobook definitely upped the experience, especially with the booktrack. The narrator did a great job and the sound effects were well-placed and blended in with the "background" nicely. I've already recommended to some friends and will continue to do so because I absolutely loved it!
