About this listen
A man's body is discovered in a church yard, the sign of the cross carved into his abdomen. Later he is found to be Alan Jacobs, a troubled psychiatric nurse. It seems to Jenny Cooper, Severn Vale District Coroner, this is likely to be an open and shut suicide case, but something tells her to probe a little deeper.
After another tragic death, Jenny’s suspicions turn toward a powerful new global phenomenon: the politically ambitious and intoxicatingly charismatic Mission Church of God.
Meanwhile Jenny must finally confront the demons of her past; and as her private life threatens to shatter, she faces intense pressure from all angles to cease her investigations. But to Jenny Cooper, whose whole life has been governed by deception, the truth is everything....

Another captivating book in the series
Another Jenny Cooper book I couldn’t get enough of. Full of suspense and mystery with a twist in the ending I never seen coming.

Satisfying finish
I thoroughly enjoyed the third book in the coroner’s series. I enjoy MR Halls writing and the narration is extremely pleasant to listen to. Look forward to obtaining the rest of the books in the series.

Wow!
What an excellent end to the trilogy of M. R. Hall's coroner series, so stupendously narrated by Sian Thomas! Wow! The characters evolved with the story and the secrets, especially the protagonist - she even learned to put a pair of boots in her car for the times she ended up sleuthing in the rain and snow! Everything was wrapped up so satisfactorily, even if I wished the ending was just a tiny bit different. Read/listen to it to find out what I mean; you won't regret it!

Excellent character development
Really enjoyed the story as well as the continuing story of Jenny cooper and those around her. There’s a lot more to this mystery series than most. A great juxtaposition between fierce and flawed, Jenny is a very interesting contemporary heroine.

Totally surprised at “Who done it!”
As usual, the author did not disappoint. I m also very fond of the narrator. Easy to listen to. Suspenseful and inviting you to read on. Left with an awful distaste of lawyers, after read! Ending was not what I wanted, but can’t wait to see what author has in store for the coroner. Hoping there are more books with these characters!

Slow
Ugh! I really do need to keep track of the books I read and the authors so that I can avoid wasting time on books that ultimately I’m not going to like.
There is a Canadian drama aptly titled “the Coroner “ that is based loosely on this character. The characters names and the background of Jenny herself remain the same along with her father’s diagnosis and the story that is creeping in now of a repressed memory of a death in the family, but even in the drama the main character annoys me to no end.
There’s almost a me against the world mentality in Jenny where if someone contradicts what she’s thinking they must be hiding something or there must be something wrong with them or they’re against me. So far in this book with five hours left till the end, every instance is a case of someone raising a point, her dismissing it, something else happens to show that original point in a different light and then she runs with it and doesn’t communicate with anyone else like she needs to be at the top. she definitely has maintained that “ I must win, I must come out on top” lawyer mentality even though her career has completely changed.
I understand why this book series was adapted to a TV series I say adapted quite loosely because there’s not much adaptation that is needed. this book reads like a TV series, with each chapter there is very little revealed, so if you’re looking for a fast-paced thriller or mystery this isn’t it. This book reminds me of those murder series that are 7 to 12 episodes long and the story continues throughout the entire series so you’re waiting until the second last episode before something starts to really happen, and until the final episode for the big reveal, so you’ve sat through hours of episodes where barely anything happen in order to get to the last 1.5 hours where everything is revealed.
