Publisher's Summary

Things are getting desperate for Maya and her friends. Hunted by the powerful St. Clouds and now a rival cabal as well, they're quickly running out of places to hide. And with the whole world thinking they died in a helicopter crash, it's not like they can just go to the authorities for help.

All they have is the name and number of someone who might be able to give them a few answers. Answers to why they're so valuable, and why their supernatural powers are getting more and more out of control.

But Maya is unprepared for the truths that await her. And now, like it or not, she'll have to face down some demons from her past if she ever hopes to move on with her life. Because Maya can't keep running forever.

Old secrets are revealed and unexpected characters make a surprising return in this stunning conclusion to Kelley Armstrong's New York Times best-selling Darkness Rising trilogy.

Much better than the second book, a great conclusion for the teens of the story

It's ok

This book, and the series as a whole, is a decent series and is great if you're looking for a fun way to get into the fantasy genre. I say that because although this book and series do contain elements of fantasy in it, it is still strongly rooted in the real world. So if you are someone who is unsure if they like fantasy, this series is a good way to dip your toe in without having to jump into a whole new world.

Although I do definitely love this series and Kelley Armstrong's writing as a whole, there is one main critique of this series as a whole (and something that shows up in this last book a lot) that I do not love. It is the love dreaded love triangle that was so popular from the mid-2000s to the mid-2010s. Now I understand that I read this final book in 2023, which is roughly 10 years away from when this book was published, and that when this book was published, this was popular. But I do not feel that the love triangle really benefitted the story in any way. Not to mention, how often do love triangles really happen? (I know I know, this book is not based in real life, with fantasy characters, but love is a real thing and love triangles don't happen that often).
