About this listen

Now a CW Original Series

The Der Spiegel number #1 blockbuster bestseller about an intelligent life force that takes over the oceans and exacts revenge on mankind!

Whales begin sinking ships. Toxic eyeless crabs poison Long Island’s water supply. Around the world, countries are beginning to feel the effects of the ocean’s revenge. In this riveting novel, full of twists, turns, and cliffhangers, a team of scientists discovers a strange, intelligent life force called the Yrr that takes form in marine animals in order to wreak havoc on man for his abuses. The Day After Tomorrow meets The Abyss in his gripping, scientifically realist, utterly imaginative thriller. With the compellingly creepy and vivid skill of this author to evoke story, character, and place, Frank Schatzing’s book are certain to find a home with fans of Michael Crichton.

Good story. Bad reading

Interesting story about a world changing eco event that I couldn't finish due to a narrator that couldn't take the time to learn how to say the words. I get that most of these words were in a different language but you can easily find the correct pronunciations on the internet or somewhere.
it took me out of the story everytime a word was misspoke.
unfortunately some of the most interesting parts for me took place in the Canadian Arctic and those chapters held the most mistakes.
Nothing against the author. the issue is with the narrator.

Thought it would be exaggerated but plausible eco story
It wasn’t. Just too ridiculous to finish

Great voice work, but story took too long to end so suddenly.

Took 32 hours for the story to start. The author went deeply into the science of how and why but very little excitement until the last 3-4 hours. The finale was tide up in a brief fever dream ending which took 25 mins and a notebook that details the end of a 36 hour book in about 12 mins.

With how long it took to build character background and relationships from all over the world finally coming together, I really thought there was going to be a second or even 3rd book.

I really wanted to like this book, but even with the fantastic voice acting of the reader, I wouldn’t recommend it to any of my nerdy friends sorry.

I would have liked 2 twenty hour books instead.

Sometimes bigger is NOT better

Interesting story and I’m sure that there is an excellent 17 hour book in this 37.6 hour novel. Performance was great..Interesting story line but not worth the time commitment.

Very Interesting

Well that was different. Good to hear science fiction from a European perspective. Story was a bit hard on the USA but believable except for letting China off the hook for energy use and plundering the sea. Nice to hear about different countries scientists involved. Would like to hear more English works from this author. This novel was well worth a credit.

Better Listen to this Story!

Science fiction or is it? What a captivating and frightening possibility. The author has shown how the concerns of our day are affecting far more than is being acknowledged or shared with the general population. Brilliantly written, and translated, there is not one moment that drags in this epic tale. Well worth the listen.
