About this listen
In the dark, spellbinding sequel to One Dark Window, Elspeth must confront the weight of her actions as she and Ravyn embark on a perilous quest to save the kingdom—perfect for listeners of Hannah Whitten's For the Wolf and Alexis Henderson's The Year of the Witching.
Gripped by a tyrant king and in the thrall of dark magic, the kingdom is in peril. Elspeth and Ravyn have gathered most of the twelve Providence Cards, but the last—and most important—one remains to be found: the Twin Alders. If they’re going to find the card before Solstice and set free the kingdom, they will need to journey through the dangerous mist-cloaked forest. The only one who can lead them through is the monster that shares Elspeth’s head: the Nightmare.
And he’s not eager to share any longer.

Such a captivating, unique story.
This book was so emptionally evocative, spellbinding, and immersive. I read book 1 and 2 back to back, ignoring all my life responsibilities and necessities because I just couldn't bring myself to pause too long or put it down.
The audiobook narrator is an absolute gen, and sure brought the story to life in a vivid way.
If this series has been stalking all your recommended reads , pick it up. You won't be disappointed.

Incredible story
Initially, I wasn't sure if I would continue with the series after the first book, but I'm so glad I did. The second book delivered a well-crafted story that was engaging and concise. The two-book format provided enough detail to make the characters relatable without dragging on with unnecessary filler. The only improvement I can imagine is an audiobook with a full cast.

Best duology of the year
Honestly, I think I enjoyed this book more than the first one was also great! Very good world building and character development. Great palette cleanser in-between larger series. I didn't feel like I was missing out on anything from the ending either. Lovely

Fastpaced, dark romance full of secrets
This is the first duology that I've read, and as soon as I started it immediately I couldn't put it down. I was thinking about this book at all hours of the day. I loved each of the characters and how they fit into the story. The POV from different chapters helps move the story along building the plot at a reasonable face while also developing unforgettable characters. Would recommend if you are looking for a dark fantasy romance with a great plot.

Incredible
Incredible, unique and captivating novel. Enjoyed the journey of the story as well as the ending. The characters development was enjoyable to read, and the couple of mysteries really made the novel interesting.

Loved the characters
I’ve never made a review about character development before, but the growth demonstrated by the main characters in this series is so satisfying! Not to mention the subtle undertones for tree huggers. I actually looked up spindle, yew & other trees while reading the book. This is a unique book series that my 20 year old daughter and I both loved.

Great read!
phew! That was a awesome duology! Book two kept me on my toes, and I loved the added romance of Elm and Ione. athe author did a good job of making the Shepherd king both a villian and a good guy. I really just loved all the characters, and how they grew throughout!

Loved it!
I absolutely loved this duology, it had been on my TBR for a while and I regret having waited so long before reading it. On top of that, the narrator is absolutely amazing and she did such an excellent job bringing the story to life and impersonating each character!

review for both books
I really enjoyed this duo of books much more than I thought I would. I believed in the world building (although wouldnt they all be a bit inbred after 500 years?).
This isn't usually a genre that speaks to me but I loved it. I love that there was nothing superfluous. I like that they didn't try to force the story to be more than two books (it is basically one honestly).
I took off one star in the audio for the pronunciation of hearth. It was so distracting that I even googled it to see if that is how it is pronounced in the US. It seems to not be, so I dont know what's going on there. Maybe I'm wrong. But everyone I talked to also said that sounded wrong to them so......
