Publisher's Summary

Everyone has wanted their favorite book to be real, if only for a moment. Everyone has wished to meet their favorite characters, if only for a day. But be careful in that wish, for even a history laid in ink can be repaid in flesh and blood, and reality is far deadlier than fiction...especially on Addington Isle.

Winterset Hollow follows a group of friends to the place that inspired their favorite book - a timeless tale about a tribe of animals preparing for their yearly end-of-summer festival. But after a series of shocking discoveries, they find that much of what the world believes to be fiction is actually fact, and that the truth behind their beloved story is darker and more dangerous than they ever imagined. It's Barley Day...and you're invited to the hunt.

Winterset Hollow is as thrilling as it is terrifying and as smart as it is surprising. A uniquely original story filled with properly unexpected twists and turns, Winterset Hollow delivers complex, indelible characters and pulse- pounding action as it storms toward an unforgettable climax that will leave you reeling. How do you celebrate Barley Day? You run, friend. You run.

slow to get going but I'm glad I waited it out

I really enjoyed this book. The first part of it is a little slow but then it picks up pace and doesn't stop until the end.

Watership Down with roid rage

I loved this book. A twisted and fascinating take on children's literature. Also explored the themes of human motives, revenge, futility, grief and more. Unique and thoroughly enjoyable.

The Nursery turned horror I didn't know I needed!

Wow! I absolutely loved it! I followed the author on fb as he had hilarious posts, and when he posted his book I had to check it out.Started it without reading any reviews or even the summary.

6 out of 5 star. I lovedddd every minute of it.
Thanks for the incredibly hard to go to work the next mornings, after staying up wayyyy too late, getting lost in this descriptive, magical, emotional rollercoaster of a book.

This book blew me away. Going from childhood book nostalgia (think of Beatrix Potter books, example "The Tale of Benjamin Bunny") to nursery rhyme gone dark and vengeful! I've never read anything like it. So original and animated.

The author makes you feel for each and every character, making them both a villain and a victim. Just when you start to really dislike a character, they throw in a crazy tortuous back story and you can't help but love them!

Must Read! Loved it.

Lyrical and dark

Beautiful prose reminiscent of Watership Down or Wind in the Willows if those stories turned out very dark. Old fashioned narrative in best way but really interesting twist. Worth the listen.

A lyrical horror story

I never thought I'd ever be able to describe a horror novel as beautiful and whimsical, but here I am!
A group of friends travel to the place where their favorite fairytale is set, and they get more than they bargain for after finding out the truth behind the story.

As a fellow reader and dreamer, I fell instantly in love with the characters. They were strong, resilient, loyal, real, and vulnerable. Jonathan Edward Durham even made me feel for the villains. Their cunning and viciousness masking their own vulnerabilities.
The plot was superbly paced and full of thrilling action.
But it was the writing itself that kept me hooked. Lyrical, written almost like a song. The poems throughout were unique and creative.
The final wonderful touch was Jonathan's narration. His voice is so alluring and appealing.

This book is going to be a classic! One to be read to my grandchildren (once they are old enough to hear the magnificent fight scenes, of course!)

Very good listen

A little bit of fantasy in the real world. I would eagerly crowdfund a movie of this book.

Visceral

First. Wonderfully narrated by the author.
Second. This story weaves so many of our childhood fairy tales into a wonderful, horrible story you will never forget. Elements of Peter Rabbit, Alice in Wonderland, Animal Farm, Watership Down and so many more create an aching tapestry of rich characters trapped on a literal island. Add a dash of Stephen King horror and irreverence, Read twice, back to back, just because.
Third. Jonathan Edward Durham has a fluid descriptive style punctuated by elusive prose. This was a wonderfully crafted book from front to back. A great read and I can't wait for his next offering.
Happy Barley Day.
