About this listen

In 1989 Ken Follett astonished the literary world with The Pillars of the Earth, a sweeping epic novel set in 12th-century England that centered on the building of a cathedral and the men, women, and children whose lives it changed forever. Critics were overwhelmed, and readers and listeners ever since have hoped for a sequel.

At last, here it is. Although the two novels may be listened to in any order, World Without End takes place in the same town of Kingsbridge, two centuries after the townspeople finished building the exquisite Gothic cathedral that was at the heart of The Pillars of the Earth. The cathedral and the priory are again at the center of a web of love and hate, greed and pride, ambition and revenge.

Three years in the writing, World Without End once again shows that Ken Follett is a masterful author writing at the top of his craft.

Exceptional Story

I loved world without end. The story kept me coming back for more. it's a brilliant novel that continues to catch your attention. I will listen to this all over again when I have the opportunity. The narrator was great, I can't complain.

An interesting tale although somewhat similar to the Pillars of the Earth

I did enjoy this book once I got the characters straight. Although it seemed to take a while to get into this book I really enjoyed it. I do like a book that ties up all the loose ends. John Lee is as wonderful as usual.

Prolific

It was a wonderful portrayal of a clash between nobility, clergy, serfs, and merchants. It showed the struggle against the plague and it’s horrors. Reminds me of the present pandemic.

Gripping story

Exciting from start to finish. Intricate plot with many characters all woven into each other's lives. Very satisfying book where all the loose ends and what ifs get concluded in the end.

And it continues!!!

Great story and great characters - I feel Ken Follett loves challenging these characters to the worst case scenarios. Thank God the book is long so things will eventually work out!!! Great author and narration by John Lee!!!!

Breathtaking, full of love.

After Pillars it took awhile to understand and warm to the characters. Then it grew from one crescendo to the next.
Bringing the past to the living present.
I could hardly wait to hear the next chapter.
To imagine the struggles, helplessness and then joy.. an incredible journey.

Insightful and compelling - very relevant to our current world.

Fascinating historical fiction with much relevance to our current COVID pandemic, political greed & manipulators - and deeply researched insights into early plagues and life. A richly woven and intriguing tale.
