  • The Dallas Goedert Super Bowl Show, and Peyton Riggs on Jacks recruiting, Chase Mason, DeBoer, Grubb, Super Bowl
    Feb 7 2025

The "Britton Bomber" and former SDSU terrorizing tight end Dallas Goedert has made a strong case of his potential to make the biggest play, or plays, in the big game on Sunday. In fact, one high-level NFL analyst says you should bet on that happening.

Hear Goedert's thoughts (in a local Philadelphia TV interview) on coming back to health from his knee injury just in time for the playoffs, his massive if not legendary "angry run" touchdown in the playoffs against the Packers, his chemistry with Jalen Hurts, and why his ability to ride a unicycle — honed while growing up in Britton, SD — is a reason he can gain all those yards after making big catches.

Meanwhile, the South Dakota State men's basketball team bounced back by bombarding a hundred-burger on St. Thomas 102-86 last night in Brookings, thrusting the Jackrabbits right back into the regular season title hunt after a crushing loss at UND last week. As John explains, it isn't just that the Jacks protected their home court and sniped revenge from one of their three conference losses, it's how. And... now what?

Our Friday guest is Peyton Riggs, the son of local football legend Kurtiss Riggs. The 25-year-old was a two-year offensive coordinator for the Sioux Falls Storm — he spent his first season calling plays in Kurtiss's 20th and final year at the helm — and now has the same title with the Arizona Rattlers in the same league.

Peyton has also coached and helped develop some of the top high school football talent in South Dakota as both an assistant at O'Gorman and the assistant director of the Riggs Football Academy (now the Sanford Sports Academy).

Who will be the Jackrabbits' most impactful recruit from the class of '25? What should we expect out of Chase Mason as the new SDSU QB1? Why should Eric Eidsness's offense soar right away? And who was the biggest loss of the 14 players that fled to Washington State with Jimmy Rogers?

Also — stories of working with both Kurtiss and his father's best friend Kalen DeBoer. Peyton was a graduate assistant at the University of Washington with DeBoer, who is "pretty much an uncle."

We finish by picking Peyton's brain about the Super Bowl — what makes Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs "the best team they've ever had," and why the Chiefs will hoist yet another Lombardi Trophy.

  • Why this Super Bowl should excite you, Adam Timmerman (SDSU-Packers-Rams) on his four Super Bowls, Bob Fescoe (KC sports radio) from the bedlam on Bourbon Street! New Orleans
    Feb 7 2025

Not stoked about the Super Bowl? John Gaskins attempts to jar you loose of your apathy (you're watching Hendrix, Babe Ruth, Beethoven, and Michael Jackson do the moonwalk!), while his weekly happy hour drinking buddy, Jon Oppold, speaks on behalf of a lot of Vikings fans why this game does not excite them.

For the next hour, we talk to a country boy from Cherokee, Iowa, who blocked for Brett Favre and Kurt Warner in two Super Bowl wins, and two losses. Before that, Adam Timmerman was a two-time All-American offensive lineman for South Dakota State in the early 1990's, when the facilities and the football team were Div. II, and not exactly elite like today.

The Cherokee, Iowa, native was almost Mr. Irrelevant, a 7th-round NFL Draft pick in 1995 to the already-burgeoning Green Bay Packers under Mike Holmgren and Favre. His assistant offensive line coach was Andy Reid, and Timmerman has stories, which included eating a philly cheese steak in a limo with "Big Red" in Philadelphia years later.

And, there are Super Bowl stories — of two wins ('96 with Packers, '99 with Rams and the "Greatest Show on Turf") and two losses ('97 Packers and '01 Rams). Timmerman regales with recollections of four "big games," both between the lines and all the hysteria before and after the game.

Then, we go to New Orleans, where Bob Fescoe, host of a morning sports show in Kansas City, paints the picture of a Super Bowl Thursday in New Orleans — the sights, the (mostly NFL) celebrities, and a fun encounter with a Super Bowl-winning coach and broadcaster.

Plus, Fescoe tells us why the Chiefs will be the first team to ever three-peat, and why saying the refs are helping the Chiefs win is a "disservice to Reid and Mahomes."
