Why this Super Bowl should excite you, Adam Timmerman (SDSU-Packers-Rams) on his four Super Bowls, Bob Fescoe (KC sports radio) from the bedlam on Bourbon Street! New Orleans

  • Summary

  • Not stoked about the Super Bowl? John Gaskins attempts to jar you loose of your apathy (you're watching Hendrix, Babe Ruth, Beethoven, and Michael Jackson do the moonwalk!), while his weekly happy hour drinking buddy, Jon Oppold, speaks on behalf of a lot of Vikings fans why this game does not excite them.

For the next hour, we talk to a country boy from Cherokee, Iowa, who blocked for Brett Favre and Kurt Warner in two Super Bowl wins, and two losses. Before that, Adam Timmerman was a two-time All-American offensive lineman for South Dakota State in the early 1990's, when the facilities and the football team were Div. II, and not exactly elite like today.

The Cherokee, Iowa, native was almost Mr. Irrelevant, a 7th-round NFL Draft pick in 1995 to the already-burgeoning Green Bay Packers under Mike Holmgren and Favre. His assistant offensive line coach was Andy Reid, and Timmerman has stories, which included eating a philly cheese steak in a limo with "Big Red" in Philadelphia years later.

And, there are Super Bowl stories — of two wins ('96 with Packers, '99 with Rams and the "Greatest Show on Turf") and two losses ('97 Packers and '01 Rams). Timmerman regales with recollections of four "big games," both between the lines and all the hysteria before and after the game.

Then, we go to New Orleans, where Bob Fescoe, host of a morning sports show in Kansas City, paints the picture of a Super Bowl Thursday in New Orleans — the sights, the (mostly NFL) celebrities, and a fun encounter with a Super Bowl-winning coach and broadcaster.

Plus, Fescoe tells us why the Chiefs will be the first team to ever three-peat, and why saying the refs are helping the Chiefs win is a "disservice to Reid and Mahomes."
