A celebrant is there to simply celebrate these occasions. Nowadays there’s so much social pressure; we always have to be doing the best we can, working hard, making sure we’ve got pensions and savings for a rainy day. It’s almost like a competition and I’ve been guilty of it myself. We’re so busy trying to achieve these social norms that we forget about the little things. I don’t want to be spending my life for my days off or for my holidays, I want to enjoy every day. I know that’s not always going to be possible, things happen and it’s not always going to be sunsets, rainbows and unicorns, but try to make the best of every day. That’s why I’m going into a life of celebrancy, to celebrate my life and other people’s lives. Life, death, love, these are all things we’re automatically programmed to do, they’re things we should be celebrating but our minds are so bogged down with day-to-day tasks (work, money, bills) that the stress of that takes over. We start thinking with the mind more than the heart and we miss out on so much by doing that. Life is a journey and it’s to be enjoyed as much as we possibly can. There’s something about us as humans where we’re not that comfortable with it, we like to have things mapped out, simple things like what we’re eating tonight, where we’re going on holiday, what time work starts in the morning, who you’re speaking to on Zoom that day. As you get older, personally speaking, you get a little bit more worried about it in some areas and less in others. Ignorance over the years has come to mean someone who is despised. But it’s also a choice, a deliberate act. You can choose to get involved in what’s going on in the US election, for example, form an opinion, change your mind, look again, or if you think it’s too demanding for your soul you can choose to think whatever happens over there happens and I have no influence. What is impossible to know when you’re 18 is how you body is going to be and how you are going to be physically. When you’re older we can all look back and think I wish I’d taken a bit more care or done some things differently. The thing I’d like to talk about is that I wish I’d paid attention to just how right my mother was when she would criticise and guide me away from the easy way.Growing up, it was a fault of mine, I looked for the way out, the get-rich scheme, the way to jump the queue and get ahead without all the hard work. My mother constantly repeated – and she was right – that all of that was pissing away effort, time and money and that instead, the easy way is not the easy way and that it doesn’t work by and large, and that if you put the effort into doing something positive and work on it, in the end, it will be much quicker. Ultimately that paid off and I have changed my life quite a bit realising my mother’s wisdom.Choose something important to you, that you really like, want and need to do and pour your effort into that and master the toolsets that you need to acquire to achieve that. That’s where you need to focus your energy and your time, not on the easy way or route that people are promising results instantly, that’s bullshit.We’re fed the idea that wealth is the key to success and achievement. From one perspective, it can be. There are some people who highly value the opinion of others; they’re stuck in that materialistic paradigm. I learned that the world’s opinion matters very little in your personal life. The materialistic game that so many of us are taught to play is a rigged game that does not lead to happiness. As a child, I rarely found adults to answer my questions, so I became very curious, and I’d have discussions with myself to get clarity on what I wanted to do and achieve. I didn’t know that was normal and that other people did it.If you have a challenge, it’s obvious that by stepping into that challenge/problem/issue, that’s where the solution is. You cannot think yourself out of where you’ve acted yourself into. By stepping into the challenge, you’ve acted yourself there. The only way to get out of it is not the way that took you there, it’s a different way of thinking. This is contradictory to our experience as humans because every single thing that happens in our lives is for learning, so if you take that away the learning also goes with it. I take to heart having no regrets. Of course, there are things in life that you wish didn’t happen, that were painful, but if you’re honest with yourself and think about those things, you can identify the growth that came as a result.I’ve had some tangles with nature, I was nearly bitten by a rattlesnake, I was stung by a baby scorpion in my bathroom, and I was bitten 5 times by a black widow spider in a single attack in my bed, where we’re most vulnerable. After a lot of physical problems this I started to school myself on energy medicine, I learned there was a really strong message in that connection with that spider. In my ego mind I think it would have been great if that didn’t happen, but what would my life be like right now if I didn’t go down the path of studying energy medicine? What would I be missing if I didn’t have that experience?Spiders symbolize creation, transformation, balance, and harmony offering powerful healing qualities for mind body, and spirit. This happened just before a time when I had a great awakening, I think back to that spider energy medicine, and it was very appropriate for the time. It signaled a rebirth for me.
