Although published under the name of Jules Verne, “In the Year 2889” is now believed to be chiefly, if not entirely, the work of Jules' son, Michel Verne. In any event, many of the topics in the story echo Verne's ideas. A rather humorous look at the future.

Mit dabei ist sein gerade eingestellter Diener Passepartout. Dieser wollte eigentlich die Sesshaftigkeit und Stetigkeit eines englischen Gentleman kennenlernen. Weit gefehlt: Eine wilde Jagd quer um den Globus beginnt.

Das gewaltige Projekt des Artilleristenklubs Baltimore, ein Flug zum Mond, scheint gelungen. Die drei Reisenden, Klubpräsident Barbicane, Kapitän Nicholl und Michel Ardan, haben den Start gut überstanden. Jetzt stellen sie interessante Beobachtungen an, genießen die Schwerelosigkeit und führen wissenschaftliche Dispute - bis ein explodierender Meteorit ihre Kapsel aus der Umlaufbahn wirft. Zum Glück hat Barbicane eine Idee, die sie davor bewahrt, ewig im Weltraum gefangen zu bleiben.

Around the World in Eighty Days (French: Le Tour du Monde en Quatre-Vingts Jours) is a classic adventure novel by the French writer Jules Verne, published in 1873. In the story, Phileas Fogg of London and his newly employed French valet Passepartout attempt to circumnavigate the world in 80 days on a £20,000 wager (the approximate equivalent of £2 million in 2016) set by his friends at the Reform Club. It is one of Verne's most acclaimed works.

This is a diverting delight, a window on romance in literature. There is even Fanny Hill trying not to discover what physical love is about when set upon by an old roué who has paid for the privilege. However, the "monster" turns out to be a giant submarine, commanded by the mysterious Captain Nemo, by whom they are soon held captive. So begins not only one of the great adventure classics by Jules Verne, the 'Father of Science Fiction', but also a truly fantastic voyage from the lost city of Atlantis to the South Pole.

Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea is a classic in which Verne prophesized many modern uses of the submarine. The story concerns the now famous fictional character Captain Nemo and his submarine, Nautilus, as seen by one of his passengers, Professor Pierre Aronnax. Over the years there have been many film, TV, and theatrical adaptations and variations of the book.
