Med udgivelsen af Dinosaurusens sene eftermiddag fra 1974 indtræffer et nybrud i Peter Seebergs forfatterskab. Bogen, som er Seebergs femte, bevæger sig på afgørende punkter væk fra den stil, der prægede hans hidtidige bøger. Den tidligere simple og fremmedartede form fortrænges nu af en ny, helt anderledes frigjort og detaljerig prosa. Særligt har Seebergs interesse for det ulitterære sprog fået indflydelse på værket. I forbindelse med sit arbejde som museumsinspektør ved Viborg Stiftsmuseum 1960-93 stødte Seeberg ofte på levnedsskildringer skrevet af jævne mennesker, der ikke havde noget specifikt forhold til sproget.

1943 - ein Filmstudio vor den Toren Berlins: Eine Gruppe von Zwangsarbeitern lebt mitten im Krieg in einer Kulissenstadt, in der die Nazis Propaganda- und Durchhaltefilme drehen. Om sin forkastelse af "Sære historier" i 1952 skriver Ole Wivel i sine erindringer "Tranedans" (1975), at "Ingen af os [fra "Heretica-kredsen"] havde endnu gehør for denne absurde digtnings tonart, dens intellektuelle niveau og etisk-sociale engagement". Det havde de heller ikke for Peter Seeberg (1925-99) og hans digtning, der endnu mere radikalt end Villy Sørensens kan siges at have bidraget til det opgør med "tanteriet", som Tage Skou-Hansen havde spået måtte komme.
