It was 1973, Nixon had not yet resigned, US troops were still in Vietnam. We had three channels to choose from. Drug use was casual and nobody was getting busted. Hendrix stood on a wall all to his own attesting to highs gone too far. Then me and the Bentons down the street decided to get into some trouble.

This book was published in 1894. It deals with untold accounts of the Underground Railroad. From various states in the South to the Abolitionist Progressives and Quakers in the Northeastern part of the United States. Riots, lynchings, torture, escapes, triumphs, and tragedy are included in this work. Most of these accounts were from primary sources, newspapers, and interviews by former slaves years after their heroic and arduous journeys. It is hard as a Caucasian to understand what it was life to be an African American slave before the American Civil War.
