Between 1922 and 1923, Katherine Mansfield wrote four volumes of short stories. This recording includes all sixty-three stories from the four collections, including a number of incomplete stories collated after Mansfield’s death.

In a quiet seaside town in New England, the reclusive Agatha Webb and her servant are found dead. Agatha has had a number of children who died in infancy. Local residents are divided in their opinions of Agatha—some believe that she was complicit in the death, while others feel sympathy for her due to these tragic losses. Furthermore, a local man is being blackmailed by someone who believes that he is guilty of the murders. The case ends up in the capable hands of Detective Caleb Sweetwater.

This collection arguably contains some of the most charming lyrics ever written in English. Blake’s poems can be enjoyed, not only for their historical importance in an age which was fiercely proud of its genius and its traditions, but also for their simple and beautiful expression of “two contrary states of the human soul.” Songs of Innocence was originally a complete collection of twenty-three poems, first printed in 1789. In 1794, a composite collection entitled Songs of Innocence and of Experience, containing forty-seven poems, was published.

In Dot and the Kangaroo, five-year-old Dot becomes lost in the Australian bush. Alone and frightened, Dot is approached by a grey kangaroo, who brings her some berries to eat. Dot eats the berries and suddenly finds that she can talk to animals! She tells the kangaroo that she has lost her way. The kangaroo has lost something too—her joey—but decides to help Dot out. Together, they search for home.

In a German Pension (1911) was Katherine Mansfield’s first published collection of short stories. Many of these works had been previously published in the British weekly magazine, The New Age, which also featured work by figures including G. K. Chesterton, H. G. Wells, and George Bernard Shaw. The word “pension" in the title refers to a European guest-house.

In this brief treatise, prolific New Thought author Christian Larson explores the sheer power of maintaining a positive attitude. As the author says: "Resolve to please yourself by being glad, and you can add immeasurably to your happiness in this simple manner. You must remember that the fountain of joy within your own soul is infinitely greater than all external sources of joy combined."

The Dove’s Nest and Other Stories is a collection of both finished and unfinished short stories written by Katherine Mansfield. The collection was published posthumously, not long after Mansfield’s death in 1923, by her husband, John Middleton Murry.
