Histoire
For David Goggins, childhood was a nightmare--poverty, prejudice, and physical abuse colored his days and haunted his nights. But through self-discipline, mental toughness, and hard work, Goggins transformed himself from a depressed, overweight young man with no future into a US Armed Forces icon and one of the world's top endurance athletes. The only man in history to complete elite training as a Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, and Air Force tactical air controller, he went on to set records in numerous endurance events.

Histoire
In Super Bowl XLIX, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll made one of the most controversial calls in football history: With 26 seconds remaining, and trailing by four at the Patriots' one-yard line, he called for a pass instead of a handing off to his star running back. The pass was intercepted, and the Seahawks lost. Critics called it the dumbest play in history. But was the call really that bad? Or did Carroll actually make a great move that was ruined by bad luck? Even the best decision doesn't yield the best outcome every time.

Nothing at all about bets.
Évalué le: 2022-11-28
This will be the first audiobook I attempt to return.
This book is written by a poker champion. I was expecting some insight into how professional gamblers approach bets - the thought and decision making process, the approach to risk and analyzing situations, about making decisions with partial info. I was expecting some unique insight. This was not at all what was delivered.
Instead there was a fair amount of her personal experience being mentored by the pros, her repeated advice to form a truth seeking group and some recycled behavioural economics concepts.
The personal experience seemed to be more about the value of being mentored vs the actual process or what was learned, the truth seeking group advice was impractical for the average person, and the behavioural economics info was largely a number of borrowed and seemingly nonrelevant concepts - such as how viewing an edited picture of yourself looking a lot older helps you plan for retirement.
It seems the title should be something like, "The value of mentors and a truth seeking community when trying to grow" . If that was the title I wouldn't be bothered by the content. But as it stands I feel that I've been tricked into buying this!
On another note, the author seems interesting enough and if she were to write a book that actually matched this title I would be quite interested to read it. Hopefully she does!

A rare gem
Évalué le: 2022-10-15
It's rare to find a book that is at once concise, practical and entertaining.
I have a habit of listening to books sped up - sometimes up to 2x because they have so much filler, othertimes because they are just not interesting enough, and other times because they are just not interesting enough. This book was a 1.2x read - which is slighter better than the 1.25 I usually reserve for the best books.
If that is not enough to convince you to listen to the book - at 1.2x It took me about 4 hours or so to finish. So, even if you are on the fence, you might as well just go ahead and listen to it...

Histoire
Manias, Panics, and Crashes is a scholarly and entertaining account of the way that mismanagement of money and credit has led to financial explosions over the centuries. This seventh edition of an investment classic has been thoroughly revised and expanded following the latest crises to hit international markets. Renowned economist Robert Z. Aliber introduces the concept that global financial crises in recent years are not independent events, but symptomatic of an inherent instability in the international system.

Narrator puts you to sleep.

Super had to get through. Probably a decent read but the narrator's voice is far too soothing for such a dry book. Honestly hard to stay awake during. Probably better to read than listen to this one.

You can decide when to work and when not to work. You only answer to yourself. That is the life of the successful day trader. Many people aspire to it, but very few succeed. In the audiobook, I describe the fundamentals of day trading, explain how day trading is different from other styles of trading and investment, and elaborate on important trading strategies that many traders use every day.

Questionable
Évalué le: 2022-02-26
The amount of time he spends devoted to advertising his website makes me wonder if he is actually a profitable trader, or if he just makes money off of his chatroom. If I had to rename the book, it would be called "why you should pay to join my chatroom". Not sure why anyone should pay to read such a long advertisement.
Aside from that, the info seems alright and there are some practical tips mixed in.
Overall the book would probably be decent, except for the lingering question:
if he is such a good trader, why does he spend so much time devoted to advertising his paid chat room? Is this book actually just a marketing tool for his chat room? If so, was this book worth reading?
