It was a time of revolution. The Roman Revolution describes the little known "crisis of the third century", and how it led to a revolutionary new Roman Empire. Long before the more famous collapse of the Western Roman Empire in the fifth century, in the years between AD 235-275, barbarian invasions, civil war, and plague devastated ancient Rome.

In Alexander the Great, Anthony Everitt judges Alexander’s life against the criteria of his own age and considers all his contradictions. We meet the Macedonian prince who was naturally inquisitive and fascinated by science and exploration, as well as the man who enjoyed the arts and used Homer’s great epic, the Iliad, as a bible. As his empire grew, Alexander exhibited respect for the traditions of his new subjects and careful judgment in administering rule over his vast territory. But his career also had a dark side.

Histoire
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Incredible from start to finish.
I am a life-long fan of the Alien franchise. I remember watching the first few movies when I was a little kid, and have been in love with the franchise ever since. The first Alien film is one of my all-time favorite movies. Now, more specific to this particular audiobook, there are some variations in the story which I won't spoil here, but it was not enough to detract from my experience. The narrator does an incredible job, truly a great performance from start to finish. I really enjoyed getting more into the characters' heads, which doesn't really happen in the film. I would highly recommend this to any fans of the Alien series, and any fans of good science-fiction / horror in general. I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook, and look forward to coming back for another listen at some point.

If you’ve watched the movie, then you wont get much more from this book. It’s almost as if the movie was transcribed. Disappointed, since I wanted more of the aliens origin backstory..,
