À propos de cet audio
Canada’s number one best-selling retirement income book is now completely revised and updated. Vettese will show you how to mitigate risk and secure your financial future in these unpredictable times.
As COVID-19 rocks the economy in an unprecedented black swan event, retirees and those who are preparing to retire need answers to pressing questions about their financial futures. Originally published in 2018, the second edition of Retirement Income for Life has been completely revised and updated, and now includes:
- New chapters on early retirement, retiring single, what to do when one spouse dies young, and more.
- Three strategies for mitigating your personal financial risk in the current downturn in equities and other investment products.
- Advice on how to plan for (and even benefit from) the coming bear market resulting from COVID-19, which will create unprecedented equity buying opportunities, possibly as early as 2021.
- Information on the impact of unbearably low interest rates on annuities and fixed-income investments and what to do if you hold them.
- The reasons retirees should be deferring CPP until age 70 and why the case for this is stronger than ever.
Author Frederick Vettese demystifies a complex and often frightening subject and provides practical, actionable advice based on five enhancements the listener can make to mitigate risk and secure their financial future. With more than 1,000 Canadians turning 65 every day, the cultivation of good decumulation practices - the way in which you draw down assets in retirement, ideally to have a secure income for the rest of your life - has become an urgent matter that no one can afford to ignore.

The Rule of 30 changes the mindset from saving the same flat percentage of pay to saving when it is most convenient to your situation. In most cases, it means less saving early on while mortgage payments are high and children are costly, and more saving later. Saving for retirement is a high priority, but it is not the only priority in life. It is time to dispense with old myths like “just save 10 percent of your take-home pay.” The truth is we should save differently throughout our pre-retirement years — and The Rule of 30 is a road map for doing so.

The Fed today is not our friend. Its "low rates forever" policy means we must look elsewhere for yield. Dividend-paying stocks don't help. Blue chips don't pay more than 2% or 3%. On a $1 million portfolio, that's less than $30,000 in annual income. Not enough. There's a better way. Income investing experts Brett Owens and Tom Jacobs show you how to safely double, triple and even quadruple these yields. Turn that 2% that stocks pay into 6%, 7% and even 8% (for $80,000 on that million bucks) without doing anything risky.

An entertaining and easy-to-listen audiobook about a practical blueprint to simplify Canada's horribly frustratingly overly complicated tax system. The author shares his frustration with a wildly inefficient, impossibly complex, and heartlessly impersonal bureaucracy that routinely ensares honest, hard-working people in its labyrinthine maze. The Grumpy Accountant tells the story of Jerry, a typical Canadian, and George, his trusted grumpy accountant, who guides him through the tax system at every stage in life.

America's elite have been using cash value life insurance to stockpile wealth for centuries. Used correctly, it is better described as a personal bank on steroids, and a financial bunker for tough times. To be clear, this audiobook is not about the typical garbage peddled by most insurance agents. Rather, an alternative to the risky investment strategies taught by Wall Street. It details a highly efficient form of cash value life insurance designed to supercharge your savings and stockpile wealth.

Money - investing, personal finance, and business decisions - is typically taught as a math-based field, where data and formulas tell us exactly what to do. But in the real world people don’t make financial decisions on a spreadsheet. They make them at the dinner table, or in a meeting room, where personal history, your own unique view of the world, ego, pride, marketing, and odd incentives are scrambled together. In The Psychology of Money, award-winning author Morgan Housel shares 19 short stories exploring the strange ways people think about money.

A good place to start learning about retirement income
This book includes an abundance of information, definitions and even tools for readers who are in (or close to) retirement and looking to get a foundational understanding of key retirement income considerations. It is very up front that the book is written for an readers that have a 6 figure plus retirement portfolio and does not solve for the accumulation (saving) side of retirement. Worth a read if you are looking for perspective on things you need to know when you start drawing an income in retirement. Not as insightful for readers who already have a good understanding of retirement income considerations and the retirement landscape in Canada.

Good info peppered with random political comments
Some good Canadian-based information here
Things like ‘Why aren’t the finances of the elderly studied in Canada?’ ‘One explanation may be political correctness (not explained) the other may be the effort required for longitudinal studies to be performed (which makes sense)’
Political correctness is a term used when someone wishes not to be challenged
Just clangs in what should have been a good book
