À propos de cet audio
Watch Silo, the Apple TV+ series based on the bestselling Silo Saga!
The second volume in the New York Times bestselling Silo series. Hugh Howey goes back to show the first days of the Silo, and the beginning of the end.
In 2007, the Center for Automation in Nanobiotech (CAN) outlined the hardware and software platforms that would one day allow robots smaller than human cells to make medical diagnoses, conduct repairs, and even self-propagate.
In the same year, the CBS network re-aired a program about the effects of propranolol on sufferers of extreme trauma. A simple pill, it had been discovered, could wipe out the memory of any traumatic event.
At almost the same moment in humanity’s broad history, mankind discovered the means for bringing about its utter downfall. And the ability to forget it ever happened.

Histoire
For centuries, men and women have manned lighthouses to ensure the safe passage of ships. It is a lonely job and a thankless one for the most part. Until something goes wrong. Until a ship is in distress. In the twenty-third century, this job has moved into outer space. A network of beacons allows ships to travel across the Milky Way at many times the speed of light. These beacons are built to be robust. They never break down. They never fail. At least, they aren’t supposed to.

In the 25th century, humankind has spread throughout the galaxy, monitored by the watchful eye of the U.N. While divisions in race, religion, and class still exist, advances in technology have redefined life itself. Now, assuming one can afford the expensive procedure, a person's consciousness can be stored in a cortical stack at the base of the brain and easily downloaded into a new body (or "sleeve") making death nothing more than a minor blip on a screen.

Fitting prequel to wool
A brilliant unraveling of the yarns that weave the wool. Although one could guess how things would fit together, Shift brings to bear the inevitability of the entangled lives of old and new the characters from across centuries.
It certainly gives a new meaning to living or working in shift and the agony wrought on from hacked immortality.

great sequel
loved the first one, this one was also good, although not quite as good. Mostly my only gripe is that I wanted to immediately jump into the time period right after the events of the first book but this book provides very necessary context for what happens next so it's a must read. again, still a phenomenal story!
