In this intriguing business novel, which illustrates state-of-the-art economic theory, Alex Rogo is a UniCo plant manager whose factory and marriage are failing. To revitalize the plant, he follows piecemeal advice from an elusive former college professor who teaches, for example, that reduction in the efficiency of some plant operations may make the entire operation more productive. Alex's attempts to find the path to profitability and to engage his employees in the struggle involve the listener; and thankfully the authors' economic models, including a game with matchsticks and bowls, are easy to understand. Although some characters are as anonymous as the goods manufactured in the factory, others ring true. In addition, the tender story of Alex and his wife's separation and reconciliation makes a touching contrast to the rest of the book. Recommended for anyone with an interest in the state of the American economy.

Simplified manufacturing efficiency concepts

This was a great book that managed to break down a complex subject of operational efficiency into a way that persons not familiar with manufacturing could even understand.

Interactive audio made it easy to be captured into the plot.

Best story telling format for a non-fiction book

This is the first time I read (heard on Audible) a non-fiction book that narrated as a story. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The narration is excellent and very dramatic, almost like watching a movie. The concept covered in the books is rather old, understandably. But it may have been revolutionary when it may be come out. But this way of narrating complex non-fiction topics should be used more often.

Great format for learning this subject.

The story format for learning these concepts remains my favorite. The Audio version is convenient and lends itself well to this book format. I have already listened to the story twice to help me with remembering the key points and hopefully applying them.

Rambly and old style

Mr Miyagi mentality and cheap literary devices. Get the Project Unicorn instead, it will give you some of the same cheap devices, but with less rambling

Opened my eyes

The concepts in this book are great and changed the way i look at my work. Having it explained in story form really helps to hammer home the points and improves the recollection of concepts introduced in the book.

eye opening

very relatable to the plant I am currently at and the way we are always chasing stuff thst has already happened instead of looking at why the things are happening and how to plan for the future.
