À propos de cet audio
THE GREAT MODERN CLASSIC AND PRELUDE TO THE LORD OF THE RINGS
Deep down here by the dark water lived old Gollum, a small slimy creature. I don’t know where he came from, nor who or what he was. He was Gollum—as dark as darkness, except for two big round pale eyes in his thin face. He had a little boat, and he rowed about quite quietly on the lake; for lake it was, wide and deep and deadly cold.
Whisked away from his comfortable, unambitious life in his hobbit-hole in Bag End by Gandalf the wizard and a band of dwarves, Bilbo Baggins finds himself caught up in a plot to raid the treasure hoard of Smaug the Magnificent, a large and very dangerous dragon.
This brand-new unabridged recording is narrated by the acclaimed actor, director and author, Andy Serkis.

J.R.R. Tolkien famously described the Second Age of Middle-earth as a ‘dark age, and not very much of its history is (or need be) told’. And for many years readers would need to be content with the tantalizing glimpses of it found within the pages of The Lord of the Rings and its appendices, including the forging of the Rings of Power, the building of the Barad-dûr and the rise of Sauron.

The radio dramatisation of The Hobbit became a classic when it was first broadcast on BBC Radio 4 in 1968 and it continues to delight today. Tolkien's famous saga, the prelude to the Lord of the Rings, has all the ingredients of fantasy and adventure: dwarves, elves, goblins and trolls, a fearsome dragon, a great wizard, a perilous quest, and a dramatic climax.

Andy serkis is a rockstar!
Really enjoyable! Andy does all the voices (not just Gollum), and tells the story wonderfully. We all know the story is amazing, but the I loved the narration also. Excellent!

Astonishing performance from Andy Serkis!
As someone who's listened to the Rob Inglis version probably near a hundred times or more (this is no exaggeration), I've become accustomed to his storytelling.
But, nevertheless, I was intrigued to hear Andy Serkis' version when I saw it pop up in the suggestions. With Andy being the voice of Gollum in the LOTR and Hobbit movies I knew that at least that part would be phenomenal but I had absolutely no clue what I was truly in store for.
Andy's sheer talent for breathing life into each character, each word, each song left a permanent smile on my face. I've listened to it 4 times already!
If you're a fan of this story and of Andy Serkis you MUST add this to your library. And if you already own the Rob Inglis version and you're wondering "Is having two versions of the same book ridiculous?".. The answer is HECK NO IT ISN'T!
I will forever cherish both versions and in no way regret my decision. And I PROMISE you, yes you lurking in the reviews section, that you won't regret it either.

Best version of this amazing tale.
Andy Serkis is perfect for reading this amazing fantasy tale. In my opinion this is the best version of this audiobook available.
Unfortunately starting in/at the end of chapter 7 the chapter titles and audio are not matched. (At the time stamp for chapter 8, where he should read “chapter 8…” he continues in reading chapter 7 I believe)
Could some amazing audible tech fix the audio/chapter issues? :) thanks

Of course the Hobbit is an incredible story. I've read it several times in the past. This performance though brought it to life in such an incredible way! Andy Serkis is very talented and added to the suspense and entertainment with all his different voices and tones and reading speeds. VERY highly recommend!
