Frankl trekker i logoterapien, som han utviklet på bakgrunn av sine tre år som konsentrasjonsleirfange. Ønsket om å få teoriene sine utbredt gav ham meningen med livet, og gjorde ifølge ham selv at han overlevde de umenneskelige vilkårene. I logoterapien blir viljen til mening framhevet som menneskets viktigste drivkraft, i motsetning til Freuds viljen til lyst og Adlers viljen til makt.
