Complexity done right
As is the case for all of KJ’s books, the characters are given a warmth and depth that make you genuinely care about them. They are fallible and whole in a deeply compelling way.
In particular, this book handles sex and sexuality with such care and attention that even if the characters tastes are not your own you will still enjoy their pleasure.
KJ is also one of very few authors who can be trusted to handle dom/sub relationships with the necessary care and attention to be risky and fun without having to worry about anything being unsafe.

Love, Love, Love It!
I absolutely loved this book. In fact, I'm struggling to leave the book world behind and start reading another book. I'll definitely read this one again.
The characters were well-rounded, and the plot was gripping and flowed nicely. I love that the heroes didn't feel the need to change each other or improve themselves just for the other person. They accept and love each other for who they are, and I found that very refreshing.

It takes a thief to catch a murder
This is great stuff. it has literally EVERYTHING you want in a drama! Forbidden love with a not at all noble sexy sophisticated thief that steals from the rich to give to themselves. A rejected noble artist who falls for said rogue. A Ducal family ripped apart by literal murder and unrequited need for revenge. An malicious duchess willing to go to any lengths to maintain her ill gotten gains. A duke so deep in that he goes along with it whatever the end. And the incredible plot with twists and turns a plenty mixing it all together.
