About this listen
What’s the difference between your competitor and your enemy?
You know who your competitors are. You keep tabs on them regularly, and can list them calmly, along with their strengths and weaknesses.
But your enemies are a whole other matter. They’re the haters and the doubters who said you’d never make it, the ones who stomped on your dreams. When you think about your enemies, you get emotional. You feel like you won’t let anything—or anyone—stop you.
In Choose Your Enemies Wisely, Patrick Bet-David, #1 Wall Street Journal bestselling author, founder of Valuetainment, and host of The PBD Podcast, shows how to harness that emotion to turbocharge your business, dominate this year, and grow for generations after.
But first, you need to choose your enemies wisely.
Bet-David has spent years perfecting the system that led to the knockout success of his own financial services company. Now, Bet-David shares the secret behind this system: his 12 Business Building Blocks, which will teach you how to seamlessly blend emotion and logic in your business plan. Both a practical document for achieving goals and the fuel needed to fire up yourself and your team, this plan goes beyond the “how” and digs deeper into the “why”: not only how you’ll get funding, but why you need long-term vision; why you must build a culture that makes employees want to run through walls; why you have to know the enemy you’re out to prove wrong. Straightforward and simple, the steps in this book will lead you to move the levers that create exponential growth and lasting success.
Listen to Choose Your Enemies Wisely if you are a visionary, dreamer, and big thinker. Where you are now in your business journey doesn’t matter. By following Bet-David’s plan, you will set up your business for sustainable success and accomplish your most audacious goals.

Money - investing, personal finance, and business decisions - is typically taught as a math-based field, where data and formulas tell us exactly what to do. But in the real world people don’t make financial decisions on a spreadsheet. They make them at the dinner table, or in a meeting room, where personal history, your own unique view of the world, ego, pride, marketing, and odd incentives are scrambled together. In The Psychology of Money, award-winning author Morgan Housel shares 19 short stories exploring the strange ways people think about money.

The world’s greatest bodybuilder. The world’s highest-paid movie star. The leader of the world’s sixth-largest economy. That these are the same person sounds like the setup to a joke, but this is no joke. This is Arnold Schwarzenegger. And this did not happen by accident. Arnold’s stratospheric success happened as part of a process. As the result of clear vision, big thinking, hard work, direct communication, resilient problem-solving, open-minded curiosity, and a commitment to giving back. All of it guided by the one lesson Arnold’s father hammered into him above all: be useful.

What the critics say
“While Choose Your Enemies Wisely is an excellent guide to creating a business plan that will accelerate your company’s success, it is also, at its core, an ode to American capitalism—and Bet-David is living proof that anyone can achieve their wildest dreams, with the right motivation.”—Ken Langone, co-founder of The Home Depot
"One of the best lessons my dad taught me is that 'adversity is a terrible thing to waste.' You can’t control what challenges life throws at you, but you can decide how you react to them, how you let them fuel you. In this inspiring book, Patrick Bet-David unpacks this idea brilliantly, and lays out a step by step path that will help you bring your business dreams to life."—Will Guidara, national bestselling author of Unreasonable Hospitality
"Patrick understands and can see the entire big picture, which very few can do. He is able to use that insight to inspire and motivate individuals to reach their highest goals."—Tommy Mottola, former Chairman and CEO of Sony Music

Unbelievable
After I finished listening to the audiobook, I just sat back and reflected. And then I smiled. A bunch of single words came to mind: hope, anticipation, excitement, glee, but most of all, gratitude. I’m not a business person and even I could understand this book. I have taken away just over 17 pages of typewritten notes of practical steps that I will re-read and I’m looking forward to implementing. As a Solopreneur, I didn’t appreciate the need to develop a business plan … until now.
Over the past few years, I’ve been struggling to achieve a particular dream. Now I feel a sense of relief mixed with a fire in my soul because now I see a strategy. Now I have an enemy; actually I have more than one and frankly the more the merrier.
This book has provided a bridge to make my dream a reality so I thank you Patrick. “Choose Your Enemies Wisely” not only positively affects me personally but professionally, which will ultimately have a positive impact on the lives I will touch.
Thank you Patrick for overdelivering and I will do the same.
Future is looking brighter.

A Personal Revelation After Reading the book
Hey Pat, thank you for writing this book. I am in the process of creating my business plan with much more clarity now. I've gleaned so much positivity from the book, from a professional standpoint, but most importantly, on a personal level. I had an extremely difficult father, and I was heavily bullied in primary and secondary school. All of this led to poorly channeled emotions. What I didn't know was that these emotions allowed me to become #1 best real estate broker in my province for several consecutive years. Thanks to your book, I view these people through a different lens. I even feel gratitude towards them. I've reconnected with my father after 12 years. Thank you Pat.

the enemies you choose to fuel your goals
it was full of interesting insights. I will need to listen to it again as there were moments that I couldn't write notes as was driving.
Explained many concepts that though made sense, I had never seen in the same perspective before and I was very happy I invested in this book. definitely a must read or listen more than once.
It will undoubtedly motivate me to review my own ideas about the people I surround myself with and how I interact with those I dislike.

Don't read it for book club. Journal. Do the work.
Patrick's communication style is both great storytelling and he backs it up by sharing exercises with you. But 97% of most people will never answer the questions. Don't be the 97%. Don't walk like they walk. Don't talk like they talk. Use the 12 building blocks to make a plan. Don't be like 97% of people and read the book as your book of the month club, and make annotations, and highlights and then move into your next read. It'll take you 2+ months to apply the wisdom, answer the questions in a journal from the 12 building blocks and it'll make your vision board clear; goals clear; direction clear.
Highly recommend for new CEO's and your 1-2 direct reports or EA's or Sales Leaders. Apply Choose Your Enemies Wisely + 12-Week Year, for 10x more CEO-juice.
