Publisher's Summary

Magic is dangerous—but love is more dangerous still.

When 16-year-old Tessa Gray crosses the ocean to find her brother, her destination is England, the time is the reign of Queen Victoria, and something terrifying is waiting for her in London's Downworld, where vampires, warlocks and other supernatural folk stalk the gaslit streets. Only the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the world of demons, keep order amidst the chaos.

Kidnapped by the mysterious Dark Sisters, members of a secret organization called The Pandemonium Club, Tessa soon learns that she herself is a Downworlder with a rare ability: the power to transform, at will, into another person. What's more, the Magister, the shadowy figure who runs the Club, will stop at nothing to claim Tessa's power for his own.

Friendless and hunted, Tessa takes refuge with the Shadowhunters of the London Institute, who swear to find her brother if she will use her power to help them. She soon finds herself fascinated by—and torn between—two best friends: James, whose fragile beauty hides a deadly secret, and blue-eyed Will, whose caustic wit and volatile moods keep everyone in his life at arm's length...everyone, that is, but Tessa. As their search draws them deep into the heart of an arcane plot that threatens to destroy the Shadowhunters, Tessa realizes that she may need to choose between saving her brother and helping her new friends save the world...and that love may be the most dangerous magic of all.

Alright start

I enjoined the story, it's definitely YA, I don't know how I feel about the narrator but it's the only one of this series she reads, over all she did a good job, but she's not one of my favorites

Love the book, Can't handle the Accents

I really love this book, but listening was not as enjoyable as I had hoped, as the narrator's British accents really didn't do the story justice. I wish they had done for this book as they have done in the 2nd book and have a British and a North American narrator.

LOVE

My absolute favourite story in the entire shadow hunters series. Such well though out characters. Narrator did an amazing job bringing them all to life.

A slow start

Clockwork angel is the first book in a prequel trilogy to mortal instruments. this book is an easy read with some very fun scenes. The action can be a tad muddled at times however and i felt some descriptions of things like they creatures the shadowhunters and the institute were glossed over most likely explained in the mortal instruments series.

that being said it was a solid intro point to the series for me and i look forward to reading the series!

redundant

I read the first series and I was a little disappointed by the lack of originality in this one. But the story was good and I enjoyed the characters. I just wished she hadn't used the same young broody shadow hunter dynamic.

Bland

Unnecessary world building takes away from story, most characters are morons at best. Protagonist is absolutely useless, without any character growth. Overall, a very basic fantasy with creepy teen romance, padded out with garbage writing and pointless repetition. Narrator has a pattern to their speech that rarely matches what they’re reading, obviously they don’t care for the story either.

A very enjoyable listen.

A great start to the series filled with details of the period that helped you feel like you walk the streets of London.
The narrator as excellent in all aspects if you ignore Lightwood sounding like a discount Elmer Fud. But as the character wasn’t often involved it was easy to over look.
I wish this same narrator carried on to book two it would have been enjoyable to listen to.

A good spin off of original series and good voice acting

I remember reading the city of bones a while ago and this book is relatively similar to it. Such a cliche, yet so well written and the narrator was pretty clear. The characters are my favourite part about the whole novel. They have some stereotypical traits which some may think there isn’t depth with that, but it makes the characters more consistent and relatable.

Would recommend to anyone who enjoys a good heartwarming story. Its more adventure than romance and has a relatively strong female lead.
