About this listen

The repercussions of an illicit affair unfold in this short story by bestselling author Taylor Jenkins Reid.

Dear stranger…

A desperate young woman in Southern California sits down to write a letter to a man she’s never met - a choice that will forever change both their lives.

My heart goes out to you, David. Even though I do not know you…

The correspondence between Carrie Allsop and David Mayer reveals, piece by piece, the painful details of a devastating affair between their spouses. With each commiserating scratch of the pen, they confess their fears and bare their souls. They share the bewilderment over how things went so wrong and come to wonder where to go from here.

Told entirely through the letters of two comforting strangers and those of two illicit lovers, Evidence of the Affair explores the complex nature of the heart. And ultimately, for one woman, how liberating it can be when it’s broken.

Predictable

I'm a huge fan of Taylor Jenkins Reid so I was surprised by how disappointing this title was, and quite frankly, consider the purchase to be a waste of an Audible credit. The story was predictable and I was relieved that it ended quickly.

Lies can lead to finding yourself!

This short story was an interesting one.

I love how the author presented the story in letters.
If this were to happen in today’s world, texts would be sent, taking away from the gaps between communication.
The letters gave the two characters time to grieve and time to heal, all the while supporting one another.

The way the story unfolds turns two victims into victorious. Although the waiting game felt unsettling, it was exactly what needed to happen. Carrie found all the answers she was looking for and more importantly, she found herself.

I was so drawn into this story and had various ideas of how it would unfold.
Part of me was hoping for a different ending but the ending in this story is tasteful and solidifies the respect these two have for each other. They were drawn together for a reason and one that taught them a painful lesson can be exactly what you needed to change.

Short but sweet

Great narrators. Story placed in the 1970’s so very believable with the letter writing.
Story is short but long if you think of the dates the letter writing is taken over .
Enjoyable story line. Planing to read/listen to more of this author.

Great performance & satisfying premise/ structure

... albeit somewhat predictable. I'd hoped for a deeper, more psychological twist, a more unexpected outcome

A novella

This novella is short and very entertaining. It is about two couples. One of the woman Janet contacts David by letter to inform her that her husband Ken is having an affair with his wife. The entire novella are letters read back and forth depicting the relationships of the 4 people. I liked it. I however was a bit disappointed by the ending.

So well written. So well performed. Very interesting that it was in old fashioned letter writing. could this happen today?

Absolutely helped me escape my afternoon!

I generally listen to true crime!! I know, So very different right?! But this little gem caught my eye and I was impressed for the first time I delved into a new category of listening...why not? Indeed I did and gave it a whirl! So I made myself a cup of hot tea, settled into my couch that afternoon and donned my headphones. I was immediately swept up in a real-life drama! As it unfolded, I couldn't believe where the time went...I was actually sad that it ended. I've now begun perusing the romance and steamy type novels to lose myself in, as they take you away for a few hours into a world I had never even delved into before. I'm hooked!
