About this listen
When a listless office employee (the narrator) meets Tyler Durden, his life begins to take on a strange new dimension. Together they form Fight Club - a secretive underground group sponsoring bloody bare-knuckle boxing matches staged in seedy alleys, vacant warehouses, and dive-bar basements. Fight Club lets ordinary men vent their suppressed rage, and it quickly develops a fanatical following. Before long it takes on all the trappings of a quasi-religious cult, replete with a devastating ideological mission to accomplish.
A masterpiece of raw violence and black humor, this exciting novel challenges listeners to see the world through a new - and quite possibly deranged - set of eyes. Acclaimed narrator Jim Colby brings out the dark satire in this tale of modern alienation.

A Deeply Troubling Book
I watched the movie many years ago and bought this book on a whim. The performance was good and the story moves quickly and is mostly "enjoyable". But wow! What a dark and troubling book. You have to wonder how narcissistic the author is to come up with this subject matter. I remember the movie being fairly dark and I don't know of it is the passage of time, or my intimate dealings with severely narcissistic people in the intervening years, or just that the book delves deeper into the thoughts of the main character, but this book bothered me. I'm glad it is not any longer than it is because I'm not sure I could have stomached any more time in the mind of the main character.

A great story that the movie does better
I enjoyed Fight Club, the story had good pacing, however I felt like I would have been easily confused had I not seen the movie first.
To be fair I have seen the movie at least three times and there are enough new things in here to keep you intrigued if you already know the story.
Still, if you're looking for a dark (yet sometimes comedic) story with insane twists and turns, this is the book for you.
While I felt the ending was good, I still like the movie version better. Overall it's still worth a listen.

Awesome story!
I unfortunately watched the movie first (gasp!) but loved the book so much better. The movie is so closely done to the book, it will be one of my favourites that I will read as much as I’ve seen the movie (which is uncountable). The narrator did different voices perfectly, I felt each character as they spoke. Well done!

Wonderful
After seeing the movie I could easily keep track of the plot in the book. Which made the extra content (what wasn’t in the movie) even more enjoyable. Probably the best story I’ve ever heard.

I am Joe’s raging frustration realized
I’ve seen the movie and enjoyed it. The book puts a lot of the fine nuances and subtleties into light that the movie wasn’t able to portray. An excellent listen.

cool
loved it! the different end than the movie was amazing. I wonder why they chose to end the film the way they did instead of true to the book.

Legitimately Entertaining
As many reviewers have noted, the film treatment helmed by David Fincher is superior, but this genuinely unusual novel is excellent. Chuck Palahniuk writes a provocative book that deals with consumerism, violence, nihilism, and (peripherally) mental illness. The tongue-in-cheek approach leaves a lasting impression - this book sticks with the reader.
The version portrayed most admirably by Ed Norton and Brad Pitt is a deserved cult hit and this book on which it's based doesn't add anything.. but it reveals how faithful that movie is. The book is well-written, filled with striking metaphors and allegory, presented vividly, and paced perfectly.
Jim Colby does an above-average job reading the book. The main text is delivered with spot-on tone, cadence, and pacing. His dialogue is inferior, but he admirably eschews accents and over-the-top portrayals. Colby's subdued approach isn't spectacular, but fits the book's mood perfectly. He was a great choice.
Altogether this is a 9/10 presentation of a very good (if a little weird) book. If you've seen the movie, watching it again is probably the best way to re-experience it, but this presentation is a decent alternative. If you haven't, this audiobook is a great option for an introduction (but do yourself a favor.. watch the movie).
