Publisher's Summary

She knew. That's why Mom hadn't opened the door. She knew he was dead.

Twenty years as an army brat, and Ember Howard knew, too. The soldiers at the door meant her dad was never coming home. What she didn't know was how she would find the strength to singlehandedly care for her crumbling family when her mom falls apart. Then Josh Walker enters her life. Hockey star, her new next door neighbor, and not to mention he has the most delicious hands that insist on saving her over and over again.

He has a way of erasing the pain with a single look, a single touch. As much as she wants to turn off her feelings and endure the heartache on her own, she can't deny their intense attraction. Until Josh's secret shatters their world. And Ember must decide if he's worth the risk that comes with loving a man who could strip her bare.

A beautiful teardricker

The books does an exceptional job of telling people what military life us like for those left behind. I cried more than once. The words and explanation of the circumstances in this story were phenomenal. I will read more from this author. I felt like I was right there watching as everything unfolded.

Emotional Storyline

I enjoyed this story (confused by a previous negative review 🤷‍♀️) I found that Ember’s character had a lot of depth and substance. Her whole world comes crashing down around her and she feels she has to harden herself and resolves to look after her family, move on with her life and yet protect her heart from possible future devastation. Being a planner with a penchant for putting others needs before her own, she closes herself off from love. Good thing Josh is persistent and way more put together than his reputation suggests!

Well done

This audible book has it all. Very well written and performed. First audible book I have listened to that has moved me to tears. It has ups and downs and the perfect amount of steam to top it off. First book I have listened to or read by the author and will be watching for more!

Absolutely ridiculous

DNF at 75%. I can’t believe I even made it this far. This book is just trash. I finally gave up when I couldn’t stand the slut-shaming anymore. Every female who isn’t the female lead is portrayed as a slut and are one dimensional cardboard characters designed to create so-called angst and jealousy when there’s absolutely no grounds for it. I’m done. Moving on. See ya.
