Publisher's Summary

From award-winning author Kate Morton, read by powerhouse Emmy award–winning actress Claire Foy. This breathtaking mystery of love, lies and a cold case come back to life is told with Morton's trademark intricacy and beauty.

Adelaide Hills, Christmas Eve, 1959. At the end of a scorching hot day, beside a creek in the grounds of a grand and mysterious house, a local deliveryman makes a terrible discovery. A police investigation is called, and the small town of Tambilla becomes embroiled in one of the most shocking and perplexing murder cases in the history of South Australia.

Many years later and thousands of miles away, Jess is a journalist in search of a story. Having lived and worked in London for nearly two decades, she now finds herself laid off from her full-time job and struggling to make ends meet. Until a phone call out of nowhere summons her back to Sydney, where her beloved grandmother, Nora, has suffered a fall and been raced to the hospital. At Nora’s house, Jess discovers a true crime book that chronicles the police investigation into a long-buried event: the Turner Family Tragedy of Christmas Eve, 1959. It is only when Jess skims through the pages that she finds a shocking connection between her own family and this once-infamous scandal – a murder mystery that has never been resolved satisfactorily.

As always I did not want the story to end and would love to step back into Jess & Polly’s lives in the years to come!
I had a hard time starting the last hour of the book but only because I did not want it to end 🥰

A great read. I highly recommend this book!

Great story and very entertaining. Claire Foy does a great performance of the many characters. I have read all of Kate Morton’s books and they never disappoint.

Typical Kate

This book is everything you could ever want in a Kate Morton book, twists keeping you guessing til the very end! So many times I thought I figured it out and I never did.

Really missing Caroline Lee as narrator. Not too sure why she didn't narrate this one, the new narrator was no where near as good, and her Australian accent was garbage.

Quite Good- More Voice Actors needed.

I did not find the voice actor was able to do all voices successfully, and neither should she have to with a book of this size with so many characters- many of them male. I did not find the male voices well done. I was confused at times about who was talking.

Excellent story and wonderfully narrated!

Absolutely captivating story and storytelling. I was hooked after the prologue. The pacing was such that it gave me time to think on the characters and their motives, yet kept a steady tempo that made it hard to stop listening. I highly recommend this book!

Great listen and a not so cozy cozy mystery

This book spans three generations and uncovers and unravels a mystery brought on by the death of the main character's grandmother. Through twists and turns the story was woven around family and home. Though the pace was slow, the language was lovely and made for an easy and not boring listen. I've read/listened to most of Kate Morton's writings and really enjoy her. This is not a fast paced thriller but more of a maybe not so cozy mystery. I liked how it turned out.

Loved it!!!

Another Kate Morton masterpiece!
I enjoyed how the story unfolded and I've read in other reviews, that this story was very "predictable". I beg to differ.

Kate Morton's books have a signature in their storytelling, and that's what makes them so enjoyable and anticipated.

Claire Foy was chosen to narrate this story and she did a fantastic job. I hope she narrates more of Morton's books in the future.

Well done again, to Kate Morton, Claire Foy and Bolinda Audio. You've created a 5 star masterpiece!
