About this listen
Tom Reed is a crime reporter with The San Francisco Star whose superb journalistic skills earned him a Pulitzer nomination. But years later Reed's life is coming apart. His editor wants him fired. His wife has left him to wrestle with his demons. Alone, Reed is tormented by the fear he may have caused the suicide of an innocent man suspected of murdering a two-year-old girl.
Reed's friend on the case is legendary San Francisco homicide inspector Walt Sydowski, who has one of California's highest clearance rates. He is also a lonely widower haunted by the fact he cannot solve the girl's heartbreaking death. Both men grapple with the past while they race the clock to learn the truth behind several new abductions that have anguished the Bay Area in this acclaimed thriller set in the late 1990s.

I enjoyed it
many characters to keep track of early on in the story but comes together pretty quick. Subject matter was disturbing but nothing too grossly descriptive. I will give a listen to another title from these characters for sure.

Cliffhanger to the end
Really surprisingly great story. At first I was thinking maybe good for kids but as I listened I realized how not kid-friendly this story is. A lighter who done it, with twists and turns.

Overdramatic Procedural. Outstanding Voice-Acting
This is an undeniably interesting story about the pursuit of a Child Killer. SFPD homicide detective Walt Sydowski and San Francisco Star reporter Tom Reed team up to find a serial child-abductor in a "straight-out-of-the-headlines" investigation. The characters are intriguing, the dialogue is true-to-life, the investigation is incredibly detailed, and the descriptions are vivid. Canadian author Rick Mofina enlivens his narrative with extensive examinations of the personal lives of his characters. Unfortunately, however, he injects way too much gut-punch drama into every character interaction.. the "Everything is an 11" approach is exhausting.
The performance of this recording, however, is incredible.
I must say I have read "This one guy sounded like a Full Cast reading" in listener reviews with a jaundiced eye. Of the hundreds of audiobooks I have consumed (click on my name & check out my Listener Page), I have actually never heard a performance like that - until now.
Christian Rummel reads with excellent diction, timbre, cadence, and tone, but his character voices are nothing less than spectacular. His baseline reading voice is deep and rumbly, but female and child voices are clear, distinctive, and strikingly realistic. It truly sounds like someone else is reading the part.
Rummel's rate of reading is too slow (listen to this book at 1.20X if you buy it), but the voice-over in 'If Angels Fall' is otherwise exceptional. Bravo to Audible Studios on the casting choice.
This book rates 7.5/10 stars, but the narration brings my score up to 9 stars out of 10. It was offered for Free with my subscription and I am grateful to Audible for including it in the 'Plus' catalogue. It's an engrossing recording that I can easily recommend.

Loved it!
So happy it ended up the way it did. I ended up listening to it all night and through out the day. I actually felt panic in some of the situations.

Great introduction to Canadian author Rick Mofina!
I thought this novel, If Angel's Fall, was a great introduction to Canadian author Rick Mofina! His characters were well-rounded, the settings were enjoyable, and, as a recovering Catholic, some of the subject matter took me back to my childhood. Christian Rummel did an amazing job of narrating so many and varied characters! Kudos!

This was an incredible story, a very worthy worthwhile read. Great character development great twists and turns in the plot line that gives the listener a roller coaster of emotions. I can’t say enough about the reader he is absolutely spectacular, and does a brilliant job. Don’t pass this book up.
