About this listen

A sharp and scintillating summer novel that will make listeners laugh out loud and cry happy tears from the New York Times bestselling author of Yours Truly.

Justin has a curse, and thanks to a Reddit thread, it's now all over the internet. Every woman he dates goes on to find their soul mate the second they break up. When a woman slides into his DMs with the same problem, they come up with a plan: They'll date each other and break up. Their curses will cancel each other’s out, and they’ll both go on to find the love of their lives. It’s a bonkers idea… and it just might work.

Emma hadn't planned that her next assignment as a traveling nurse would be in Minnesota, but she and her best friend agree that dating Justin is too good of an opportunity to pass up, especially when they get to rent an adorable cottage on a private island on Lake Minnetonka.

It's supposed to be a quick fling, just for the summer. But when Emma's toxic mother shows up and Justin has to assume guardianship of his three siblings, they're suddenly navigating a lot more than they expected—including catching real feelings for each other. What if this time Fate has actually brought the perfect pair together?

unexpected pleasant twists

I really enjoyed the different layers to the story and the ongoing island references. The imagery of the island in the different subtexts was excellently incorporated. The representation of the complexities of mental health issues in the different characters was beautifully interpreted and written. A funny, engaging and great summer read!

Great summer read!

The narration was great and it was a nice, easy story. A few twists and turns with Emma's life story which made things interesting.

The exploration of attachment style and ptsd

I liked the effort to represent mental health issues in a contemporary, informed way. I also liked the characterization of Justin But two main implausible plot elements distracted from the book. The fact that Justin has a range of siblings so much younger than him, each so far apart in age. Could have resolved this by making one or two younger kids a step family, and making the mom somewhat older, and not having 3 of them! Alex wasn’t developed as a character anyway

I also couldn’t suspend disbelief in terms of Maddy and Emma apparently never broaching the subject together of Emma’s issue, an avoidant attachment style based on the mother’s neglect. They have known each other since childhood, and apparently Maddy knows so much about PTSD. But therapy never discussed? So convenient that Emma “wouldn’t have listened “ if Maddy tried. Conversely, Maddy talks to her just about “boundaries,” while having abandoned her own: accompanying Emma as a travelling nurse and, it is suggested, giving up the possibility of a life for herself because of Emma. In fact, Maddy’s doing this has helped enable Emma not to seek help or heal. Just didn’t work at all as a characterization and a plot element

Such a realistic amazing romantic story.

It’s so important how they genuinely care for eachother and learn to care for themselves.

Abby never disappoints. This one hit me with all the feels!

♾️⭐️’s

Abby never disappoints! She excels in crafting authentic and engaging dialogue between the two main characters Emma & Justin and she does this with all her books, it never fails. Their exchanges feel natural and dynamic, driving the plot forward while revealing depth and nuance in their personalities. With every conversation, I was drawn deeper into the story, their backstories, eagerly anticipating the next twist in their evolving relationship.

I was teary eyed reading the things Justin went through. He is utter perfection in a man. Similarly, Emma also has a traumatizing childhood. Both Emma and Justin have a bad track for relationships and through this they connect. I don’t want to spoil it because you deserve to feel all the feels first hand.

I love how Abby took her time to address mental health issues, PTSD, how people express their love because of it. She touches on so many important topics and you can tell Abby took her time with this one. The way she brought Emma & Justin together with their different love languages, their individual traumas…. The research Abby took to create this push and pull and bring it to life was absolutely amazing.

You will laugh, cry, and be whole again… the best thing is that it was real. It wasn’t just insta love and an automatic HEA. They dealt with real life things…. Faced trauma head on…. And in the end, trust me, it will all be worth it. This was a whole journey. I found myself teary eyed in the gym while I was listening to this audio 😂

I loved the character crossovers & Easter eggs!!! I swear Abby did so well with this! She created a compelling narrative that will keep readers captivated from start to finish. Another infinity star read, she never fails!

Ps. I recommend hybrid reading this on audio & physical. The audio just makes it that more emotional. That narrators killed this!

Abby Jimenez does it again!!!

This was an immediate buy, and it was worth it. I love all of the characters and how her stories interweave together with so much love, heart, and care. I also appreciate that it's not just a love story but so much more than that. Overall, it is fantastic to read and listen to. <3 :)
