About this listen

This isn't a game. This is his new life.

An epic LitRPG adventure about a family trapped in a game-world called Eloria with no way out.

Dave has been wandering through life for a long time. His day job bores him, and he never seems to be able to meet his family's expectations. The only escape he's ever had is his love of MMORPGs.

But when he becomes the subject of a test without even knowing it, he's transported into a game-world called Eloria with no escape. It's a frequent daydream of his; however, in none of those dreams did his wife and daughter ever accompany him.

Now, Dave must balance protecting his family with exploring his dream...oh, and trying to stay alive. Monstrous beasts roam Eloria; worst of all, an undead army led by the vile Death Knight.

He'll have to adapt fast and learn to cooperate if he hopes to make a new home for his family. And just maybe, along the way, he'll find out why they're living a life in exile.

Experience the first three books in a LitRPG saga perfect for fans of C.M Carney, Blaise Corvin, and Charles Dean.

Narrated by Peter Berkrot (Alpha World, Earth Force). More than 50 hours.

Surprised!

Listened to 150+ lit rpgs. Bought this without really looking into it and assumed it would be okay at best. Turns out I’m a huge fan! Highly recommend.

can't get enough

I love the unique way of looking at this genre from a family perspective.

surprisingly well composed

in a sea of litrpg adventures there can still be relatively original stories. Though a touch naive and full of domestic relationship disfunctions, the story is entertaining.

Great story!

Really enjoyed the story and the narrator. Don’t think I’d like it as much as I did can’t wait to listen to book 4, and it’s out gonna go listen now. If your on the fence just get it!

Family * social issues * gaming

The societal metaphors being discussed in these novels are fairly interesting if not a bit obvious at times. Also I find some of the cultural combinations a bit odd (Celtic + Japanese fusion for the "elves") and the stereotypical conservative middle class vibe seems to be a bit cheesy at times as I keep waiting for the kids to openly rebel against their parents or something realistic like that. Also why are there only 3 main religions? And better question only 3 Gods for a whole planet? You can create your own spells but not your own spiritual values? Something is weird about that. But hints were kind of dropped about that around the end of book 3 so I hope it's resolved in book 4.

One of my best spent credits

I loved the family aspect, made this series feel unique. loved then characters. the only thing that takes a bit away from this for me is there were.a.lot of description of skills and items that never came into play and took up a lot of time.

Emily is the absolute worst.

The story is generally really well done and enjoyable. The narration is good. Unfortunately, the mother Emily is the most annoying character I have ever come across. She is a total b***h to her husband for no reason, and whines at every possible occasion. The story is still worth listening to, but be prepared.

Starts as a LitRPG then quickly becomes a regular fantasy story

Book 1: Overall not bad, a good introduction to the world and characters. Only thing that held it back was the constant and confusing switching between characters across the book. Also lots of cliffhangers at every chapter made it quite annoying.

Book 2: Story is still alright, but now almost all RPG elements are stripped down, with maybe only 5% of the book being around it. Additionally, not only are there still character switches, but also time jumps, meaning you have to peace together what is happening and when it is happening in every chapter. Also random quotes at the start of every chapter felt unneeded and made the whole thing unorganized.

Book 3: What the story has building up towards for 3 books is resolved in one, anticlimactic chapter. RPG elements are still very rare and the quotes at the start of every chapter continue to bog it down.

Mediocre at best.

Very slow and heavy handed to start. Author likes to throw numbers and stats that have no relevance to anything in to the mix with stats that do have relevance. Primarily from the perspective of a 40 year old man but author tries really hard to have characters swear without any actual profanity (this is just a personal problem I have with a lot of authors). Author has no idea how children act at what age. Have a 15yr old girl that acts like they are 12, a 13yr old boy who acts like they are 10 and an 8yr old girl who acts no older than 5. Add to that the narration with weird emphasis on some syllables and flat on others, and an attempt to differentiate characters with different tones and accents that is only partially successful. Unless you really need something to listen to I do not recommend this. I gave it a chance for the first three books on 1 credit but have been entirely disappointed.
