Publisher's Summary

A love story, an adventure, and an epic of the frontier, Larry McMurtry's Pulitzer Prize-winning classic, Lonesome Dove, is the grandest novel ever written about the last defiant wilderness of America.

Two retired Texas Rangers, Captains Woodrow Call and Augustus "Gus" McCrae, lead a cattle drive from the small town of Lonesome Dove to the unsettled Montana territories. On their grueling journey, they are joined by Joshua Deets, a Black scout and former Ranger, Jake Spoon, a fugitive, and Newt Dobbs, a 17-year-old boy who may have family ties to Call. Richly authentic, beautifully written, always dramatic, Lonesome Dove will make listeners laugh and weep, dream and remember.

This remastered audio edition is expertly read by actor Lee Horsley, best known for his starring role in the television series Matt Houston.

SUPERB!

This audiobook was like watching the movie in my head… right down to the southern drawls of each character! Such a well written story line & characters you become absorbed in the book & can’t stop listening. Highly recommend this audiobook!

Character and plot building

Real deal. This starts off slow and is everywhere. (Think Tom Clancy) Slowly builds to a can’t stop listening storyline. The voice of the narrator for Augusta is top shelf and capturing descriptions of the landscape makes me want to go Montana.

Amazing book but depressing as Hell.

This is one of the best westerns ever. But it's a realistic and rough ride. Well worth it but don't expect a nostalgic look into yesteryear.

Excellent

don't let the first bit of the book discourage you. I almost lost interest but I held on and wow am I glad I did. the characters are very likable and the author does a good job of capturing what life would have been like I suspect. I don't want to say much for dear of ruining the book. read it and enjoy! life on the plains was different.

Super Duster!

This is the best duster ever written, hands down. It was adapted into the best screen play western as well with some of the best acting of any film or tv show... ever!
