About this listen

Oliver Chase only has two things going for him; an addiction to dating sim RPGs and a spotty mental health history.

Stuck working a dead-end job, another lonely Valentine's Day passes Oliver by. There's a coworker he's kind of into, but irl flirting isn't as easy as choosing the right dialog option and clicking a button, sadly... but what if it was? After a lonely night jackin' it under the influence of Special Californian Gummies™, Oliver awakens to what appears to be a complete psychotic breakdown. System notifications, menus, stats, and so much more RPG crap gets injected into his life faster than you can say, 'I Can't Believe It's Not Schizophrenia'.

Even crazier, Oliver starts earning 'Love Points' through having romantic interactions with certain girls, which can then be spent on skills ranging from passive buffs to reality-warping insanity. He wants to make the most of these new powers, but he won't earn enough to do so if he isn't working multiple angles, and between his chill coworker, his evil boss, and the girl who ruined his life? Well...

It's best to start with the tutorial.

Surprisingly charming for litrpg and I would recommend!

I selected this audiobook after reading a few reviews and I have to agree: it's very much not what I expected from the genre. Having said that, it was an enjoyable and credit-worthy listen! Great character depth and development, interesting premise, and I'm left wanting more.

Definitely more of a litrpg slow burn romance with a strong focus on character development. Not much action and the main character isn't "saving [insert group/land/world/kingdom]", but honestly it's refreshing! Instead of being all magic, elves, or monster girls (all have their place of course), this story selects a niche genre of dating Sim games. It had its hot moments, but the subject matter and dialogue were more the 18+ parts, with not a huge quantity of steamy scenes.

I REALLY hope there's another book to follow. I do feel like this could have been edited down to a bit shorter of a length, but it kept my attention throughout. I was also expecting to get a lot further along in the main relationship than we reached by the end, but I feel like it worked.

**A tad on the spoiler side after this...**

Honestly, as a female fan of litrpg (or even works labeled as "men's fiction"), it's really nice when healthy perspectives on women are portrayed (or in this case, actually full on addressing things like the incel movement and both its unhealthy impact on the males drawn to it and its prevolence in gamer culture). I respect the direct inclusion of difficult topics like mental health, bullying, incel, healthy vs. unhealthy perspectives on kinks, isolation, and self-worth.
