Publisher's Summary

This is a full-length, 115,000-word novel and is the first book in the Knitting in the City series.

There are three things you need to know about Janie Morris:

  1. She is incapable of engaging in a conversation without volunteering TMTI (too much trivial information), especially when she is unnerved;
  2. No one unnerves her more than Quinn Sullivan; and
  3. She doesn't know how to knit.

After losing her boyfriend, apartment, and job in the same day, Janie Morris can't help wondering what new torment fate has in store. To her utter mortification, Quinn Sullivan—a.k.a. Sir McHotpants—witnesses it all then keeps turning up like a pair of shoes you lust after but can't afford. The last thing she expects is for Quinn—the focus of her slightly, albeit harmless, stalkerish tendencies—to make her an offer she can't refuse.

Great story... hilarious, dark and steamy.

Great story ... amazing book in the series or as a standalone. Narrator, Jennifer Grace brought out the hilarious, dark and steamy energy. Passionate from start to finish can't wait for another book from Penny Reid.

Ugh, Jeanny is just AWFUL

I didnt hate the book but i didnt really like it either. The main character is a brilliant, smart girl who is the dumbest Ive ever had the misfortune of reading. Her constant "but why" questions are enough to make you want to bang your head against the wall. Also, way too long. Four hours could easily been edited out and you would have missed zero plot. Ugh.

The narrator did a fine job. Only problem is what she had to read was crap.

Six star audiobook

I have read Penny Reid’s Neanderthal Seeks Human pribVly 4 times. This was my first time listening to this as an audiobook. And just like the book, I will listen agAin and again. You know how good the narrator is? I forgot it was one person. Yep. That’s how good. I felt like Immu Brain was watching this amlike a movie. Love hearing Penny’s words brought to life.

Good fun romance

I chose this novel as it is the first in the series, and I am such a fan of author Penny Reid’s other works. I really enjoyed the story line and how it all came together. It was neat how she gave the main character some quirks and that she was noticeably imperfect, but also self-aware of this fact for the most part. It is a stand alone novel, but will later intertwine slightly with characters from different story lines of this series and the Winston Brothers series.

Refreshingly intelligent and nuanced

It’s a typical romance in many ways. Woman meets man, will they/won’t they, conflict, etc.

BUT the protagonist is anything BUT typical. She’s neurodivergent as hell (I think AuADHD coded); outside the standard female in these sorts of books (very tall, for starters); her interior monologue is realistic and relatable and has depth. Both she and her love interest are realistically flawed (not just “he’s possessive and she has daddy issues”) and she has girlfriends, with names and personalities! They’re an important part of the story, not just plot props.

It’s a little dated in some terminology and attitudes but mostly really engrossing and fun. I laughed out loud often, and felt the things she felt. Well done!

Loved it

I loved it! but there were a few times I became a little sick of the main characters self doubt. I recognize this is an issue for many but we come to books to escape it.

Perhaps a tad predictable, but I loved Janie!

I found this book to be hilarious! The narrator was perfect, and honestly, it was so refreshing to have a socially awkward main character who isn't made to change who she is by the end. I enjoyed the random facts and tangents and I'd love to have a friend like Janie. I really enjoyed this (and its sequel) and I'll be listening to the rest of the series now, too!

Wonderfully Written Atypical Romance

She probably has some symptoms of Asperger's, he flirts with illegality and never dates.

ROFLMAO

OMG…. I haven’t laughed out loud so many times since I listened to a novel in ages. It had everything, angst, mystery, humour, passion, love. The narrator did a superb job in getting the emotions across. Can hardly wait to hear the rest of the books. If I was able to I’d give it 30⭐️. Totally enjoyable a must listen
