À propos de cet audio
An electric blend of sci-if and horror, Paradise-1 begins a terrifying new trilogy of exploration and survival in deep space from Arthur C. Clarke Award-nominated author David Wellington.
"A superior space thriller that never flags....Readers will be on the edge of their seats."—Publishers Weekly (starred review)
Paradise-1. Earth’s first deep space colony. For thousands of people, it was an opportunity for a new life. Until it went dark.
No communication has been received from the colony for months. And it falls to Firewatch inspector Alexandra Petrova and the crew of the Artemis to investigate.
What they find is more horrifying than anything they could have imagined.

Down there, beyond the deepest caves, below the crust and the mantle, there is another world. An old woman locked away in a Russian asylum has a secret - knowledge of a 500-year-old manuscript written by a long-dead alchemist that will show a passage to the mythical centre of the Earth. She knows it’s real because 50 years ago, she and a team travelled there. And only she made it back. Today, caving specialist Mike Monroe leads a crew into the world’s deepest cave in the former Soviet Union.

A night spent sleeping on dirt and leaves is not how Claire Matchett expected to spend her vacation. She thought this would be a break. A week of hiking and hot tubs with two other couple friends. Then Claire’s minivan breaks down on a lonely dirt road. With no cell reception, the group has no choice but to hike the rest of the way to their hotel. But it turns out the woods aren’t as easy to navigate as they thought. Hours later, they are lost. Hopelessly lost. And as they navigate deeper into the woods, the members of their party are struck down mysteriously one by one.

Ivy is in trouble. A recent break-up has left her humiliated and raw, so when her best friend, Regan, offers her a month-long escape in the form of a trip to Australia, it feels like a lifeline, one that Ivy grabs with both hands. Regan is everything Ivy’s not. But Ivy is drawn to a calmer type of holiday, so when she spots an ad for crewmembers on a small yacht being sailed by a doting father and his daughter, the girls decide to take the job. Together with a handsome third crewmember, they set off north into tropical heat, but it's not long before doubts start to creep in.

Psychologist Dr. Ophelia Bray has dedicated her life to the study and prevention of ERS—a space-based condition most famous for a case that resulted in the brutal murders of twenty-nine people. When she's assigned to a small exploration crew, she's eager to make a difference. But as they begin to establish residency on an abandoned planet, it becomes clear that crew is hiding something. While Ophelia focuses on her new role, her crewmates are far more interested in investigating the eerie, ancient planet and unraveling the mystery behind the previous colonizer's hasty departure.

It was the autumn of 1628, and the Batavia, the Dutch East India Company's flagship, was loaded with a king's ransom in gold, silver, and gems for her maiden voyage to Java. The Batavia was the pride of the company's fleet, a tangible symbol of the world's richest and most powerful commercial monopoly. She set sail with great fanfare, but the Batavia and her gold would never reach Java.

When Gyre Price lied her way into this expedition, she thought she’d be mapping mineral deposits and that her biggest problems would be cave collapses and gear malfunctions. She also thought that the fat paycheck - enough to get her off-planet and on the trail of her mother - meant she’d get a skilled surface team, monitoring her suit and environment, keeping her safe. Keeping her sane. Instead, she got Em. Em sees nothing wrong with controlling Gyre’s body with drugs or withholding critical information to “ensure the smooth operation” of her expedition.

Great colonization story, narration is top drawer
This is light hard sci fi so I didn't have to listen to this twice in a row to finally get it. Superb characters, a robot that Bob would get along with, and yams used as mass projectiles are what you're in for. And not to mention Laurel Lefkow, who speaks perfectly enunciated English without an accent, does Robots to accents and she's amazing.

Interesting premise, fell flat
There were some good ideas explored in the story, and the characters were somewhat interesting. It had its moments of entertainment, but I found the writing wasn’t great and the storyline altogether wasn’t very strong.

At some point you will think the story must wrap up soon, and you will be dismayed to see there is still 9 hours to go.
This book had too many good ideas. So none of them really stood out or felt explored in enough depth to be satisfying. It felt more like an entire television series with episodes connected by the same characters and setting but with many different plots that didn’t feel like they had much overlap.
There are three main human characters with history and backstories and the most interesting one there is a robot who likes trains.

waste of a good idea
I liked the narrator and I liked the premise so I forced myself to listen to the end. Stupid cliffhanger to a stupid storyline. Sorry if this is harsh, I feel cheated of several hours.

Let down
I regret waisting a credit on this title. Lazy writing. Honestly, it could have been decent. However, I felt like I was watching a low B grade movie. Where you find yourself sighing because every decision made doesn’t match the characters profession or their characterization. And these stupid decisions are the only reason the story can move forward. To top everything off you get left with a cliff hanger after forcing myself to finish this ridiculous story.

Don’t Buy This Book
This book was poorly written with a weak and inconsistent plot and uninspired characters. The robot was interesting. The reader’s voice did not bring the characters or the story to life.
Thank goodness for the fast forward advance option.

Not as previewed
A cast of characters you find yourself rooting against from o e melodrama to the next. The whining and impractical decisions made just lead from suspense building to painfully wanting the next scenario to start. Kept losing interest as the dialogue whined on and then the irrelevant flashback “dream” narrative near the end was just a time filler before the ending which is a cliffhanger to the next book, also not mentioned that this is a series not a stand alone. Don’t waste the time on this.
