About this listen

From New York Times best-selling author Penelope Douglas comes the latest new adult romance with a bit of everything...friends to lovers, enemies to lovers, and a somewhat interesting use of public places.

Misha

I can't help but smile at the lyrics in her letter. She misses me.

In fifth grade my teacher set us up with pen pals from a different school. Thinking I was a girl, with a name like Misha, the other teacher paired me up with her student Ryen. My teacher, believing Ryen was a boy like me, agreed.

It didn't take long for us to figure out the mistake. And in no time at all, we were arguing about everything. The best take-out pizza. Android vs. iPhone. Whether or not Eminem is the greatest rapper ever... And that was the start. For the next seven years, it was us.

Her letters are always on black paper with silver writing. Sometimes there's one a week or three in a day, but I need them. She's the only one who keeps me on track, talks me down, and accepts everything I am.

We had only three rules. No social media, no phone numbers, no pictures. We had a good thing going. Why ruin it?

Until I run across a photo of a girl online. Name's Ryen, loves Gallo's pizza, and worships her iPhone. What are the chances?

F--k it. I need to meet her.

I just don't expect to hate what I find.

Ryen

He hasn't written in three months. Something's wrong. Did he die? Get arrested? Knowing Misha, neither would be a stretch.

Without him around, I'm going crazy. I need to know someone is listening. It's my own fault. I should've gotten his phone number or picture or something.

He could be gone forever.

Or right under my nose, and I wouldn't even know it.

Editorial Review

From friends to enemies to lovers, all played out on paper… What could be more dramatic than a pen-pal love story?

Punk 57 is the story of two unlikely friends who, despite disagreeing on everything, build a close and long-lasting relationship. Paired in fifth grade as pen-pals, Misha and Ryen commit to sending letters back and forth for years, avoiding social media, phone numbers, or any photos of one another. Though opposites in almost every way, they seem to have an unbreakable bond and a friendship unlike any either has experienced before. Penelope Douglas creates the ultimate new adult romance story, complete with a bad boy, high school lovers and twisting plot.

Penelope Douglas is a New York Times best-selling romance author. Her works have grown a dedicated following, and young adult listeners will immediately become engrossed in the story of Misha and Ryen. The audiobook adaptation is narrated by Laurie Catherine Winkel, and Matthew Holland, who play Ryen and Misha, respectively. The dual readers bring a reality and authenticity to the story, helping to pull listeners in. You will feel as though Ryen was reciting letters directly to Misha and vice versa.

Fall into this story of friends turned enemies, as two people who once loved everything about one another on paper, hate what they find in reality. Can the two learn to overcome these feelings and be close again? Find out as you listen to the unpausable Punk 57.

Good Story

I enjoyed the actual story. It was very young adult but still good. The male narrator though, not a big fan. He was very dramatic at all times when it did not seem necessary. I found he made his 18 year old kid sound way more aggressive than was necessary. Overall not a bad read though!

Well written! Reminder: It's YOUNG ADULT!

Great read! Some parts were cringe worthy (I am not a teen) However, the book was well written, the spice level & storyline was perfect for young adult readers! Read more of my review at allthespicy . com

starts out rough but worth it

I couldn't stand the characters at first, a little too much teenage angst for me but the more I got to know them, the more likeable they became. The narrator also sounds like Antoni from QE so it made me like Misha a lot more.
The sec scenes were *chefs kiss* excellent.
WOW THE ENDING. I DID NOT SEE THAT COMING

Good but the guys voice…

It was like a teen romance, some spicy parts the male reading the parts of Meisha was horrible. His voice expressions try to sound more feminine were terrible. Still I listened to the entire thing

Good, but not my favorite

Although "Punk 57" didn't quite top my list of favorite Penelope Douglas books, it served its purpose as a refreshing palette cleanser. If you have read the Fall Away series already, this might disappoint in comparison. I couldn’t connect with Ryen and Misha on the same level I did with Tate and Jared. Nonetheless, this was an easy and quick read for me. I would recommend that readers check the trigger warnings as this does include intense bullying and sexual content.

Highschool Flashbacks

Thought this book might be too high school for me but it was amazing. It was so relatable with the cliques, pretending to be someone you're not, the special connections and everything about struggling to grow up and fit in. The characters were so realistic (minus the fighting which IRL would get you expelled) and I couldn't get enough of Misha and Ryen and seeing how they progressed throughout the story. The sex was never too much!! I lost so much sleep over this book trying to finish it

Too young for me!

It was written well but much to young for me…high school kids might like it though!

Hmmm

I'm pretty sure I'm not into bully/high-school romances.

Penelope Douglas is an amazing writer. I love her story telling. I love the tension she builds and the edge she writes her characters in. But characters based on high school are just not my thing.

I think if I read this year's ago when it came out I would of eat it up and fell in love but since I'm much older now then when this came out I have a different experience.
