About this listen

From a renowned financial journalist who has written for Time, Fortune, Forbes, and The New Yorker, a fresh and unexpectedly profound book that draws on hundreds of hours of exclusive interviews with many of the world’s super-investors to demonstrate that the keys for building wealth hold other life lessons as well.

Billionaire investors. If we think of them, it’s with a mixture of awe and suspicion. Clearly, they possess a kind of genius - the proverbial Midas Touch. But are the skills they possess transferable? And do they have anything to teach us besides making money?

In Richer, Wiser, Happier, William Green draws on interviews that he’s conducted over 25 years with many of the world’s greatest investors. As he discovered, their talents extend well beyond the financial realm. The most successful investors are mavericks and iconoclasts who question conventional wisdom and profit vastly from their ability to think more rationally, rigorously, and objectively. They are master game players who consciously maximize their odds of long-term success in markets and life, while also minimizing any risk of catastrophe. They draw powerful insights from many different fields, are remarkably intuitive about trends, practice fanatical discipline, and have developed a high tolerance for pain. As Green explains, the best investors can teach us not only how to become rich, but how to improve the way we think, reach decisions, assess risk, avoid costly errors, build resilience, and turn uncertainty to our advantage.

Green ushers us into the lives of more than 40 super-investors, visiting them in their offices, homes, and even their places of worship - all to share what they have to teach. From Sir John Templeton to Charlie Munger, Jack Bogle to Ed Thorp, Will Danoff to Mohnish Pabrai, Bill Miller to Laura Geritz, Joel Greenblatt to Howard Marks. In explaining how they think and why they win, this “unexpectedly illuminating” (Peter Diamandis) book provides “many nuggets of wisdom” (The Washington Post) that will enrich you both financially and personally.

Best book in a decade

I read upwards of 70 books a year, and this is THE book I am constantly going back to. If you’re on your own investment journey, this is a critical book to add to your list. It’s advice is not only on how to build wealth, but how to live a beautiful life.
Thanks William Green for writing this!

Really great listen

This was a great book on investing. Maybe not so much how to go about it, but the mental principles and how some of the greatest investors have struggled with the ups and downs. The compilation of interviews included in this book is amazing! There was inspirational content, comments that irritated me, other experiences that almost made me cry, but overall I really enjoyed the solid principles that most of these investors had in common that lead them to greatness over the last 100 years. It was not a boring book and I would recommend it to anyone wanting to learn about the lives of some of the best investors and what they learned and wish to share with the rest of us. Also, I'm not a huge fan of British accents on audio books, but the narrator was easy to get used to, and after the first chapter it seemed natural for him to be one presenting the book.

Recommend for anyone with investments

A truly inspiring and interesting book for anyone contemplating investing. The variety of interviews and depth of knowledge presented is impressive. I would also recommend listening to the podcasts the author has appeared on to discuss the book. It stands to reason that if you are investing you should learn how some of the best have done it.

William Green has written a masterpiece!

I finished listening to the book in 2 days. However, I will be going back to it again and again, because there's so much wisdom packed in each chapter, that it's impossible to take it all in one sitting. Also, I ordered a hard cover copy for my 15 year old son, because I am certain he could profoundly benefit from reading it. I will most likely buy two additional copies for my younger daughters. Thank you, Mr. Green for collecting the wisdom of so many great men into this wonderful book!
