About this listen
New York Times best seller
Set between the events of Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, the never-before-told story that began with Star Wars: Aftermath continues in this thrilling novel, the second book of Chuck Wendig’s best-selling trilogy.
It is a dark time for the Empire.
The Emperor is dead, and the remnants of his former Empire are in retreat. As the New Republic fights to restore a lasting peace to the galaxy, some dare to imagine new beginnings and new destinies. For Han Solo, that means settling his last outstanding debt, by helping Chewbacca liberate the Wookiee’s homeworld of Kashyyyk.
Meanwhile, Norra Wexley and her band of Imperial hunters pursue Grand Admiral Rae Sloane and the Empire’s remaining leadership across the galaxy. Even as more and more officers are brought to justice, Sloane continues to elude the New Republic, and Norra fears Sloane may be searching for a means to save the crumbling Empire from oblivion. But the hunt for Sloane is cut short when Norra receives an urgent request from Princess Leia Organa. The attempt to liberate Kashyyyk has carried Han Solo, Chewbacca, and a band of smugglers into an ambush—resulting in Chewie’s capture and Han’s disappearance.
Breaking away from their official mission and racing toward the Millennium Falcon’s last known location, Norra and her crew prepare for any challenge that stands between them and their missing comrades. But they can’t anticipate the true depth of the danger that awaits them—or the ruthlessness of the enemy drawing them into his crosshairs.
Praise for Aftermath: Life Debt

“With an intense plot, political intrigue and great characterization, Wendig’s Aftermath: Life Debt is an excellent read.” (Flickering Myth Praise for Chuck Wendig’s Aftermath)
“Star Wars: Aftermath [reveals] what happened after the events of 1983’s Return of the Jedi. It turns out, there’s more than just the Empire for the good guys to worry about.” (The Hollywood Reporter)

“The Star Wars universe is fresh and new again, and just as rich and mysterious as it always was.” (Den of Geek)

Story
On the planet Tython, the ancient Je’daii order was founded. And at the feet of its wise Masters, Lanoree Brock learned the mysteries and methods of the Force - and found her calling as one of its most powerful disciples. But as strongly as the Force flowed within Lanoree and her parents, it remained absent in her brother, who grew to despise and shun the Je’daii, and whose training in its ancient ways ended in tragedy. Now, from her solitary life as a Ranger keeping order across the galaxy, Lanoree has been summoned by the Je’daii Council on a matter of utmost urgency.

It's a good plot and decent performance.
I personally am not a fan of the narrator in certain areas; I find many of his characters sound boyish and thus come off as a somewhat cheesy. However his Palpatine and several other characters such as Rax, Temin (ironically an actuall boy) and Mr. Bones are quite good.
As for the plot I really enjoyed most of it, some areas do feel slow but the book makes up for most of the pacing in it's closing hours. The epilogue is especially good. A good read if you are interested in how canon looks to deal with the rise of the First Order, otherwise I'd say stick to legends. The Thrawn Trilogy (Heir to the Empire trilogy I haven't read the new ones yet) is far better.

this book is strangely horny.
not necessarily a bad thing, but weird for a star wars book. Marc Thompson's narration elevates the presentation.

Better than book one, but made me appreciate the characters in book one as well.
I enjoyed the voice acting and sound effects. Having sounds clips of actual rookies from the series rather than voice acting the Wookiee’s grows was much much better and less awkward to listen to.
Overall story was better than book one, but this book made me appreciate the characters and overall story arcs of book one.
The space battle stories are somewhat short and not very descriptive, but overall not bad for a Star Wars book.
The voice acting for Han Solo also grew on me. Tough to match Harrison Ford’s voice, but this was pretty good.
Overall for story development in the Star Wars universe, I’m enjoying the trip so far. Can’t wait for book 3!

I couldn’t finish this book
The only good thing about this audiobook is the delivery by Marc Thompson, which is as always, fantastic. The characters are bland, and the story arc is uninteresting to the point that I had a difficult time caring or even recalling the events that took place in the previous chapter. I struggled to finish the first book given Wendig’s mediocre writing, and with 6 hours of listening time left in this one, I don’t care enough to continue. Needless to say, Chuck Wendig’s Star Wars isn’t my cup of blue milk.

Lame and juvenile
I thought that book 1 had some potential, but after finishing book 2 and almost finishing book 3, this series is so juvenile. The dialogue is painful to listen to. The new characters are interesting, but predictable and lack depth. The plot twists are obvious. I was an avid reader of the so-called “Legends” series - now non-canon books, and I’m incredibly disappointed with this new direction for what happens post RoTJ. Zahn’s trilogy “Heir to the Empire” stayed far truer to the style and feel of Star Wars. Is Disney trying to dumb down the stories? Lame, lame, lame.
