Publisher's Summary

Miles Cameron weaves a tale of magic and depravity in the sequel to The Red Knight.

Loyalty costs money.

Betrayal, on the other hand, is free.

When the Emperor is taken hostage, the Red Knight and his men find their services in high demand - and themselves surrounded by enemies. The country is in revolt, the capital city is besieged, and any victory will be hard won. But the Red Knight has a plan.

The question is, can he negotiate the political, magical, real, and romantic battlefields at the same time - especially when he intends to be victorious on them all?

book 2 is awesome

This book is fantastic and I can't wait to listen to the third in the series.

The second book lives up to the first!

The second book in the series is as fun a listen as the first. the narrator preforms well and the story itself keeps you interested. The author's descriptions of combat and medieval armour and customs is wonderful and reminds you that he has done his research.
My one and only major gripe is that similarly to the first book, the author rushes at the end. The book is all about building up to the conclusion and describing small events in great detail from multiple perspectives, but then suddenly the end is near and everything is crammed into however many pages he had left. two massive conveniences occur near the end that just draw things together in a somewhat abrupt fashion and both seem rather avoidable with a bit of prior planning.

Still very much worth the listen/read and I will be buying the next one as soon as I stumble upon another credit!

This is fantasy that scratches the itch and doesn't take itself all too seriously whilst still being gritty and exciting enough for any older teen to adult audiences.

A title that Fell a little short

^Sorry for the punny title. I enjoyed this continuation of the series, however it was lacking the action the first novel in the series had and put me to sleep at times. The books seemed to slow down and tried to explain EVERYTHING which got old fast. Story progressed quite slow it felt in the Audio format. Narration was great. Decent book but not a epic. #Audible1
