About this listen

Contains books one and two of The Forever Series.

Jon Ryan is irreverent, cocky, funny, and walks with a swagger. He says what he means, he says what he wants to, and, in fact, he says what needs to be said.

The cocky fighter pilot turned astronaut is also Earth's only chance for survival. The planet Jupiter, thrown off orbit, will destroy Earth in less than a century. Jon volunteers for the most ambitious, desperate mission ever conceived: His consciousness must be transferred into an experimental android host, where he'll live an immortal - and lonely - life. Jon's only companion on his 50-year voyage is his ship's irritable AI.

After successfully journeying for decades and locating a suitable human resettlement, Jon begins to discover the wonders life can hold, including the power of family and, for once, true peace. But no good deed, or good man, goes unpunished.

The US president wants him dead and is willing to sacrifice his own people to eliminate Jon. An alien species has vowed a holy war to eliminate all humans, either on Earth or wherever they might run. Only Jon can protect humans from their enemies.

With the best planet for colonization ruled by an ancient, malevolent species, there may be no hope for humans in a crowded galaxy. The limits of human technology may not be sufficient. The limits of Jon's endurance may not be enough. His endless enemies may prove to be unstoppable.

Jon may have forever, but does humanity have any future at all?

Poorly written

MC is extremely frustrating, book is poorly written, good ideas, poor execution, written like a 14 year old did it, I wanted to like it, and I did finish the book, but it really was disappointing.

Great start, Bad finish

The storyline interested me and started out really well. The narrator was good, 4 stars.
The story and characters were really good, and then at the 3/4 mark, the author ran out of story and changed to a fairy tale. I couldn't finish. The hero gets everything greatest weapons: the greatest ship, greatest alien technology, the women, and all the gold and fame... really. I like a good ending, but come on, It's like a little kid wrote the last portion of the book.

Enjoyed it but last 1/3 was weak

Overall a good story that was told well. Good production value. But the last 1/3 of the book felt so much weaker. It seemed the author ran out of steam at y to he end. But I have purchased the next book in series hoping it is more like the first part of this book.

The Forever by Craig Robertson

I loved this ebook. The story was great, inventive and in-depth. The narrator was excellent for this story. I hope there is a continuing ebook for me to buy. I will also check out this author for his other works.
Cecelia MacIntyre
ps..what happened to Al? I don’t remember him in the last several chapters.

light hearted and fun.

Not everyone's cup of tea, obviously. If you have a sense of humor, you will enjoy it. This is a fun story. I was skeptical at first but I'm glad I stuck with it.

It Only Gets Worse

I have a pretty high tolerance for inept writing, as long as the concept is interesting. I've listened to plenty of bad sci-fi, and some pretty middle of the road lit-RPG, and stuck around to the end because the world, or the characters, or the narrative was compelling. I had real hope for this series; it begins in a way reminiscent of schlockey 70's sci-fi, but with some interesting threats and concepts. I'm currently nearly done Volume 2 (Books 3 & 4), and it has only gone down hill. Unapologetic deus ex machina, with no justification or consequence, casual sexism and racism, and prose which started out samey and just got plain boring. I'm planning to give it one more book, but if Volume 3 is as poor as the second I think I'll be asking for my money back. This is a master class in how not to write a power fantasy. Go listen to Expeditionary Force instead.

the best book on repeat

the second book get repetitive and the solutions come too easy, it would be nicer if it had a longer outlook. eg, meet something, move on, deal with a problem, the problem gets even worse, go back get the item, have a problem getting the thing, get it, go back and use it. otherwise the characters, species, and locations are wonderful.
